What speed will the ram be when I add to ACER Nitro 5 AN515-46-R8M?

hey everyone lately I've been dreaming of buying "ACER Nitro 5 AN515-46-R8M1 15.6" IPS 144Hz R5-6600H 16GB RAM 512GB SSD GeForce RTX3050Ti Windows 11 Home" and in the specs it says it's a DDR5 ram, and acer has problems with DDR4, because when the ram is 3200 MHz it sets to 2677 or lower values :(

My question is whether I will have the memory speed when I dock the "Crucial 32GB (1x32GB) 4800MHz CL40". He has a speed of 4800MHz, but I am afraid when I buy this laptop it will be 2677 MHz instead of 4800MHz.

If I dock such memory, will the task manager display the speed of 4800MHz as on the RAM label?

  • Hi,

You can use only a DDR 5 memory modules in your model, DDR 4 RAM will not fit because they have different number of pins, yes you can use DDR5 4800MHz modules in your model, it clocks at 4800MHz for other users( look at the userbemchmark links)

  • Hi @sweetziemniakez you should only use DDR5 modules as your colleague tells you and with the same speed as the one installed.
The speed is only reduced if you install a compatible DDR5 module with a speed lower than 4800.
If you would like to expand the memory, I leave you the permitted distribution:

    All the best.

So if I buy DDR5 ram, I will have a constant 4800 speed?

Why not just add 1 x 16GB DDR5-4800 eactly what is installed you wil have 32GB max. RAM that you want and will run in Dual Channel mode at 4800MHz that you want. Just replacing the 16GB with a 32GB module may not run at 4800MHz (Single Channel). Price should be the same but make sure the two DDR5 modules form a Kit absolutely identical brand, part number everything.

  • You mention in your first post that you have 16GB of memory, that memory should be DDR5 at 4800 according to the data in the service manual and it should be working at 4800, can you confirm this?

Run the CPU-Z application to find out the characteristics of the memory you have installed:

If the module you currently have is DDR5 at 4800 and you place another module, compatible, that is, with exact characteristics to the one you already have, the equipment must work at 4800.

    All the best.
