Hello,

I recently purchased the Acer Aspire A515-57 (‎NX.K8QEK.003) in the black friday sales.

I also purchased the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD, as this was a bargain and has the read/write speeds up to 7450/6900 MB/s, as long as you are connected to a PCIe 4.0 slot.

I cannot seem to find anywhere what PCIe slots are inside my laptop.

I have since installed the Samsung SSD into the laptop and have tried running read/write tests using a couple of programs, including Samsung Magician.
I'm currently getting 3507 MB/s Read speeds and 3421 MB/s write speeds, so essentially half of what the SSD is capable of.

My question is (as both laptop and SSD are up to date on all fireware updates and whatnot), does this laptop not have PCIe 4.0 slots? Would this be the reason why i am not achieving these speeds?

Thank you in advance,

Jaymie

After getting through to Acer Support through online chat, i was able to obtain the following information:

    Storage Subsystem • One port for M.2 SSD PCIE Gen3 x 4lane at JSSD2 • One port for M.2 SSD PCIE Gen4 x 4lane at JSSD1

So the expandable slot, currently being used for the Samsung 2TB SSD, is using a PCIe Gen 3 slot.
If i migrate everything over to the SSD, then swap the SSDs to the opposite ports, i should be able to achieve full read/write speeds, as slot 1 is the Gen 4 slot.

Thank you Acer for your help :)
