Hello everyone,

I have an [Acer Aspire 7 Core i5 12th Gen 1240P - (8 GB/512 GB SSD/Windows 11 Home/4 GB Graphics/NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650) A715-51G, A715-51G-527C Gaming Laptop  (15.6 inch, Black, 2.1 Kg)], I want to upgrade its Ram by installing a 16 GB ram in addition to an already installed 8GB ram, Please suggest me which Ram to buy? also should I install it by myself? There was a sticker at back of laptop saying removing this will void my warranty.

Thank you

IMO yes, you can do the upgrade yourself, Acer's warranty sticker policy differs between countries, it is interpreted in many countries including the USA that stickers broken on the actual adapters will void the warranty but if the back of the laptop is opened to upgrade RAM or replace the battery this will not void the warranty. If the seals on the back are removed and you have a major repair job later, Acer Services may decline replacing under warranty a very expensive motherboard, so there is some risk involved.

Yes, you can add a 16GB DDR4-3200MHz, CL22 ram module to the 8GB installed, you can pdate Ram up to 32 GB max. (2 X 16 GB).

https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct16g4sfra32a but to get maximum clock speed (3200 MHz) you better install 2x8GB or 2x!6GB so RAM will run in Dual Chanel mode. When you add 16GB Ram will run in Single mode at half the speed.

Upgrading the RAM in your Acer Aspire 7 can be a beneficial way to improve overall system performance, especially if you engage in memory-intensive tasks or gaming. Here's a general guide on how to upgrade RAM in your laptop:

    1. Check the Compatibility:

    • Make sure to check the maximum supported RAM capacity for your laptop model. In some cases, laptops have limitations on the amount of RAM they can support.
    • Confirm the type of RAM (DDR3, DDR4, etc.) supported by your laptop. It's crucial to match the existing RAM module.

    2. Purchase the Compatible RAM:

    • Look for a RAM module with the same specifications as the one currently installed in your laptop. This includes the same type (DDR3, DDR4), speed (measured in MHz), and ideally the same brand.
    • In your case, since you have 8GB of RAM, you can buy an additional 16GB module. Make sure the total capacity doesn't exceed the laptop's maximum supported RAM.

    3. Installation Process:

    • Before starting, make sure the laptop is turned off and disconnected from the power source.
    • If there's a removable battery, it's a good practice to remove it to ensure complete safety.
    • Locate the RAM slot(s) on your laptop. Refer to the laptop's manual or online resources for the specific location.
    • Open the back panel or access door that covers the RAM slots. This might involve removing screws, so be careful not to damage anything.
    • Insert the new RAM module into the slot at a 45-degree angle and gently press down until it clicks into place.
    • Close the access door and secure it with the screws.
    • Reconnect the battery (if removed) and power up the laptop.

    4. Verify the Upgrade:

    • Once the laptop is back on, check the system properties or use task manager to confirm that the new RAM is recognized and functioning correctly.

    Important Notes:

    • Warranty Sticker: The warranty sticker on the laptop might indicate that opening the back panel could void the warranty. However, in many regions, such warranty void stickers are not legally enforceable, and you should be able to upgrade your RAM without voiding the warranty. Still, it's recommended to check your local laws and the terms of your warranty.
    • DIY vs. Professional Installation: If you're comfortable with basic hardware tasks, upgrading the RAM is generally straightforward. However, if you're unsure or uncomfortable, consider seeking professional assistance to avoid any potential issues.

Remember to consult the laptop's manual or Acer's support resources for specific guidance related to your model. If you're still unsure or have concerns about warranty implications, reaching out to Acer's customer support for clarification is advisable.
