How do I connect to legacy windows network

I have a new AspireV3 771G Notebook - as fast as hell. Windows 8 - YUK YUK YUK - horrible horrible operating system - should only have been issued to gesture machines - rubbish for mouse machines and help is a word that is wrongly used. It should be take me to the blind alley and loop for ever road.

I have tried everything I know through decades of Microsoft and computer knowledge and this one has stumped me.

Why is the network connections to my local network intermittent, or non existent. I have XP computers all working on my home network fine and just put in network name and away we go. They see each other and my two NAS machines without failure or error. Windows 8 is so arrogant it just sees itself and when it feels like it it will acknowledge other connections. But mostly ignores them or stops working even when they do appear. I have an IP scanner running on the Aspire and it sees everything no problems.

I have upgraded to Windows 8 Pro thinking that might help. Big mistake £100 down the swanny and feel ripped off.

I HAVE USED EVERY SUPPORT SITE I CAN FIND AND NOTHING.

Is this a driver problem or clashing hardware or just a rubbish operating system, I have spent weeks looking and fiddling and nothing helps.

I cannot find a support number for ACER so I cannot even ask them.

Anyone with out there with some means of identifying the cause and offering a solution

PLEASE

If you have read this far the update is -

Currently the drivers for the network Wifi and Cable appear to clash or Windows8 cannot cope with them both. Robot Sad

Thus if you disconnect one or the other from the network the other appears to work. Robot Happy

Control Panel > Network Settings > Network and Sharing Settings is one route

    or

pull up the menus from the bottom right hand corner and click on settings then "your network name"

Turn off the network connection you can do without.

Do not expect any help from Windows8 it just takes you round in circles.

Doing the above I appear to have a working connection. I am using cable connection as it works faster than the Wifi. I have not yet tested Wifi to see if it can work independently. Let me know if this works for you.
