Predator Helios 18 - Curious about CPU temps and temp is high

Hi all

Recently purchased this monster and quite impressed with build quality and performance, except for one thing - the CPU appears to be running unreasonably hot.

I noticed that after a short session of BG3 the CPU was maxed out at 99 deg C (at least it looks like it maxes out there, since it never goes above), whilst GPU was running around 75-80 degrees. CPU usage during gameplay barely above 10% on top of that, where the GPU was being pushed to its max (this was in performance mode). In desktop (balanced mode) the CPU is idling between 50-60 degrees, which seems quite high also. When I enter the BIOS, the CPU is between 70-80 degrees - rediculous? One time it was running at max frequency and 1300mV in the BIOS, another time it was at lower frequency (2700Mhz or such) and 900mV. Still 70 degrees then also.

In Windows there could be some kind of driver issue I suppose (causing CPU to run at unnecessarily high frequency/voltage), but in the BIOS?

I'm curious what other users are experiencing with this laptop? Given all the focus on the new cooling solution and liquid metal, I was expecting much better thermal performance from this unit. Also, it looks like CPU temp can go up very fast with minor CPU usage; I'm wondering if perhaps there's an issue with the liquid metal/thermal paste on the CPU? With a proper conduction, temps shouldn't go up as fast/be all over the place and go this high?

Cheers for any feedback! If this indeed is incorrect behavior I will contact Acer support to have them check the unit.

    Hello,

I have a same laptop. What you describe, that is the normal operating temperature. Don't worry, enjoy.

Thank you for the feedback. I updated the BIOS to the latest version, but that doesn't make a noticeable difference. The tables are nice, but don't really address the issue of the CPU running at 70-80 degrees C in BIOS and shooting up way fast as soon as there are a couple of % of load on it?
I can accept the CPU running at such temperatures under stress/longer sessions with high usage, but I don't understand why it does so when it's only utilizing a couple of % and the GPU at the same time peaks out around 80 deg whilst pushing 100%?

Here's a screenshot - started BG3, alt-tab out to watch a Youtube video for some minutes, then back in and playing BG3. Running in Balanced mode and it's not touched 99, but is it normal to run at high 80's - low 90's in balanced mode with such a low CPU load?

Here's after changing to Performance mode and playing a few mins:
