Chromebook knows me but won't let me login

On opening my Chromebook (CB) the page comes up with my picture from my Google account and on pressing the "Signin" button, it changes to a login page with pre-filled my email address.

I enter the password and press submit. The CB then reverts back to the signin page with my pre-populated email address. It is a "death loop" and does nothing other than this action.

I have changed my password on another device and tried again. I do not now get the message "Login with your previous password" nor it will do anything with the new password accept push me back into the death loop above.

I have tried the old password even though there is no message and still the death loop occurs.

If the CB knows me, produces my photo from my google account and pre-populates the email box with my correct email, why does it not acknowledge a password submission. There is no "incorrect password" message. It just seems to be a failure in the password submission inside the CB somewhere.

How do I get back into my CB?

It sounds like the Chromebook is not connected to the network. It needs to be on the network in order to do the authentication for your login. You can just do a reset of the system and setup the WiFi and login again, or figure out why it's not connecting.
