Pathfinder, Thanks very much for your upgrading advice. New Atheros AR 9462 card, 8GB 1600 DDR3L RAM and an Intel Core i7 2820QM Quad Core ordered. Any other adjustments needed for these to work? I'm also switching to a Samsung EVO 2.5" SATA SSD.
It still has its original v 1.07 legacy BIOS, which I suspect is responsible for some of the ultra-slow speeds and other glitches I'm getting with Windows 10. I have downloaded the v1.21 BIOS with both DOS and Windows files, but have also found a potentially more attractive unlocked BIOS v1.21 with UEFI ( https://files.fm/f/ewrorog via Acer Aspire 5750G / Z / ZG unlocked BIOS v1.21 with UEFI - YouTube). Unfortunately I can't be sure how to install it. I can't even tell if it's meant to be run in Windows or from a USB stick in the BIOS. It has two different .exe files in it, but don't know which to use if trying to launch in Windows or whether I should put it all on a USB drive and try booting from it. Any Idea? And since it is supposed to be UEFI, should I install the new SSD first?

Many thanks
