So a few months ago, I bought an Acer Aspire 5 A515-56G. The specs are pretty good, like 16 GB of RAM, Full HD, Intel i7 1165G7 and more but I noticed that my graphics card isn't that great (MX450). Can I add an external graphics card? If yes, which one would you recommend for a basic gaming laptop, capable of running the game + the recording software (OBS)?

Unfortunately, about the only eGPUs that can likely outperform the MX450 would use the wifi card PCIe socket with cables running from the PCIe adapter to the external unit. Furthermore, the costs would likely make such a conversion even more impractical. Any other eGPUs that use Bluetooth or one of the A5's ports would not perform as well as what you have already have. Sorry I can't be more optimistic.
