hello. My laptop is acer predator neo 16 which comes with i9 13900hx, 16 gb ram ddr5 5200mhz and rtx 4060. First I thought 16 gb ram would be enough for video editing. But I noticed my laptop is slightly slow in video editing. I'm considering to upgrade 48gb ram ddr5 by adding one 32gb ram. I wanna know if 48 gb ram is ok or overkill for my laptop. Thanks in advance

Ok you must have a Predator PHN16-71 top spec that was released with the i9-13900HX cpu after this SG was released, as the Acer PHN16-71 does not have the i9-13900HX cpu listed in any SG. What is the full model number like PHN16-71-XXXX as the last 4 digits are what your model full number is, as the SNID does not recognize the full model number. This is what the last PHN16-71 from Acer SG has as its list of cpu's, that is what I was going by:

With the RAM at this laptops oem 16GB and you wanting to add a 32GB for a total of 48GB its a BIG NO, you can't add a 32GB DDR5-5600MHz module as this laptops max ram is 32GB at Supported memory size per socket at 16GB like you have fitted in your laptop now, you need to add another of the exact same 1x 16GB DDR5-5600MHz module to give you a total of 32GB and afterwards if you look in CPUz in the Memory section at Channel#: it will show Dual, which is the fastest and the best combination for gaming and editing for your laptop.

Here is the Predator PHN16-71 memory specs as listed by Acer last SG:

The PHN16-71 laptop Acer SG doesn't even have DDR5-5600Mhz type ram listed only the DDR5-4800MHz for this laptop, here is the ram modules that it has listed:

If your laptop has the i9-13900HX CPU its NOT the Predator Neo 16, its the new Predator Helios 18 PH18-71, as the Neo 16 does not come with the i9-13900HX CPU. Also, you can't have a total memory of 48GB and/or add a 32GB ram module to the 2nd ram slot and increase its oem 16GB ram by adding a 32GB ram module to make the total ram to 48GB, as your laptop will NOT work.

The below spec list and the ram types are for the Predator Helios PH18-71 with the i9-13900HX CPU but the Predator Neo 16 model PH16-71 has similar memory specs except that the Predator Neo 16 PH16-71 doesn't operate on DDR5-5600MHz type ram but does operate on DDR5-4800MHz type ram.

Install CPUz and look in this software's SPD1 section for the 1x 16GB ram specs that is installed in your laptop now which will probably be a Hynix or a Micron type 1x 16GB DDR5-4800MHz module, all you need to do is search either eBay or Amazon for the exsact part number and match your existing 16B DDR5-4800Mhz type ram and add that module so that you have a total of 32GB at 2x 16GB DDR5-4800Mhz.

A better and a higher speed memory ram combination option for the Predator Helios PH18-71 laptop with the i9-13900HX CPU, is to upgrade both modules to 2x 16GB DDR5-5600Mhz type ram like shown below from Hynix, but first update the laptops ram to the last bios Version 1.15, as Acer has added more compatible DDR5-5600MHz memory for this laptop. Also note, that the Hynix DDR5-5600MHz ram listed below is out of stock and is not available last time I searched for this ram, so make sure that you check with Hynix or Acer what other DDR5-5600MHz type ram is compatible and is available if you want to go down this route. Good luck with your upgrade and hope I've helped you out with your ram upgrade, as at 32GB total memory with 2x 16GB DDR5-5600MHz type ram, it will be way more than adequate for video editing, as you have a really great gaming and editing laptop👍

    I have predator neo 16 with i7 13900hx 4070 .I have installed 2 32 gb sticks of 5600mhz. it works flow lessly.

I also installed 2 TB nvme. the only issue i have is ram is of 5600mhz but getting identified as 5200mhz. both rams are identical of patriot's signature line.

I am confused, can we use 2 sticks of 32 GB SODIMM DDR5 RAM or not?

    I think it

I think 2 sticks of 32 GB DDR5 should work fine.

I have a the Neo 16 with 48GB memory installed. I have an i7 13700HX processor. It works great. I bought the Crucial 48GB Kit CT2K24G56C46S5 5600/5200/4800mhz capable. The i7 Processor will only allow it to run at 4800mhz. The i9 processor will allow the ram to go up to 5600mhz. It is 2 modules with 24GB each. Don't try and add 32 to 16. It won't work. Use 2 identical RAM sticks. I have heard that 64GB is not a problem with this model either but that was overkill for me.
