Why Acer Spin 3 SP313-51N Touchscreen not working?

Good day

I have a Spin 3 laptop (SP313-51N) , currently using Windows 11, and after doing the Windows KB5029921 update in September, my touchscreen stopped working. My stylus still works fine but the touchscreen does not. I bought this laptop last year (2022) in December.

There are no error messages in the device manager, and the touch screen driver is not greyed-out. The DeviceDiagnostic troubleshooter did not find any problems. My touchscreen is not working in the BIOS environment. According to the Device manager my driver for the HID-complaint touch screen "has determined that the best driver for the device is already installed". When trying to calibrate the touch in the control panel, it does not pick up the touch input.

My current Windows is Windows 11 version 22H2. My BIOS version is V1.15.

I have tried the following solutions but nothing has changed.

  1. Enable/Disable of the HID-complaint touch screen driver in Device manager
  2. Uninstalling and then reinstalling the HID-complaint touch screen driver in Device manager
  3. Uninstalling the Windows update (KB5029921)
  4. Wiping the screen clean
  5. Restarting the laptop

From other threads I know that suggested solutions include updating my BIOS and resetting the PC, but these have not seemed to fix the problem and I would like to try alternatives before resorting to these dangerous solutions.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

There is a single cable that runs between the motherboard and display, which includes the wires for your camera, mic and touch. If the other parts work fine then it's not likely (but not impossible) to be the cable that's causing the issue. Do you have any other devices flagged in Device Manager? The touch function runs through an I2C interface in the chipset so you might get a warning form something else other than the touch screen itself. You could try a reinstall of the chipset drivers, then the serial IO drivers just in case one is corrupted.

Please try to perform the methods below and check if any of the methods will fix your concern.

    Method 1: Update Driver

    1. Open run box by pressing Windows Key + R and type devmgmt.msc then hit enter
    2. Locate and expand Human Interface Devices
    3. Right-click HID-compliant touch screen and select Update driver
    4. Select Search automatically for drivers
    5. Wait for the process to complete, once completed, restart your computer and check if it resolves your issue.

    Method 2: Roll-back driver

    1. Open run box by pressing Windows Key + R and type devmgmt.msc then hit enter
    2. Locate and expand Interface Devices
    3. Right-click HID-compliant touch screen and select Update driver
    4. Select Browse my computer for drivers
    5. Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
    6. Select any older driver from the list and click next
    7. Wait for the process to complete, once completed, restart your computer and check if it resolves your issue.

    Hope this helps.
