Is it possible to add 2 external monitors to an Aspire 5 A515-57?

Hi,

Newbie here.

My daughter uses her laptop for online school and it would be useful and more productive for her if we could add 2 additional monitors to allow her to view different applications on different screens.

Therefore was just wondering if anyone can advise if I can add 2 external monitors and if so, what equipment in addional to the actual monitors would be required? Can see how to add one screen with HDMI port, but not sure about the second.

Any assistance, much appreciated!

@marshall7477 that Thunderbolt port should support display output so you can use a USB-C to HDMI adapter. Try to find one that is from a well-known brand.

    o I need a USB-C to HDMI adapter?

OK. Looks good. You need either an inexpensive thunderbolt type-c to hdmi cable or a type-c to displayport cable as shown below. Many newer monitors have both hdmi and displayport inputs. So your choice. Either is fine. As mentioned by egydiocoelho you may have to tap F2 on startup to enter the BIOS menu and enable the ThunderBolt capability in the Advanced tab.

Yes, it's possible to have two external monitors.

But how well they display independent screen apps depends on if one of the USB type C ports has a ThunderBolt lightning bolt symbol like shown on the left below.

If no lightning bolt symbol, then you need to get a relatively inexpensive USB-to-video signal converter because the port is data-only so doesn't natively support alternate mode video signal output. I can suggest a few signal converters if you only have data-only USB ports.

    Many thanks JackE and egydiocoelho.

JackE - Looks like the USB-C has a Thunderbolt lighting symbol (see attached image).

What does this now mean in terms on connecting to a monitor? Do I need a USB-C to HDMI adapter? If so, does it matter which one?

    Thanks again.

  • You don't need an adapter. Just enable the tbt device in the bios and then connect a monitor or an external video card to the thunderbolt port:
