Dear Acer support,

Can you activate Undervolting Protection (UVP) feature in the bios for Predator Helios Neo 16 (PHN16-17) Intel 13700HX processor? https://cdrdv2.intel.com/v1/dl/getContent/671098 or at least create a setting that ensures temperature does not higher than 90 C?

I am playing Spiderman Remastered and the CPU temp goes up to 90 C - which in turn would really heat up and throttle performance.

Hoping this one to get addressed asap

Thanks,

John

I agree with this completely, I decided to go with an Acer PHN16-71 this year because of the style of the laptop, and the performance but the disappointment I felt after spending near £2000 on my laptop and finding out you cannot undervolt which generally increases the laptops life span and provides a huge performance boost was locked. Its ridiculous that I'm playing a newish game and almost immediately jumping upto 90c or higher which makes FPS and overall performance drop.

Please look into this issue because myself and many others would love to use the laptop to it's full potential.

    Many thanks

    Ashley

  • This laptop is made to run at those temps as the PHN16-71 (not the PHN16-17 as there is no such model) its undervolting has been stopped by Acer, this is due to allot of problems associated with users that have destroyed their laptops by undervolting.

Thermal Management has been set to these settings:

    • CPU TCC Trigger: 92C
    • OS Shut Down: Trigger = 110C; Need De-bounce 30times
    • EC Shut Down: Trigger = 110C; Need De-bounce 30times
    • H/W Shut down: Trigger = 95C
    • Sampling time: 1 second
    • Level 1~5: Retry time: 10 seconds
    • Level 6~7: Retry time: 5 seconds
    • Level 1~8: CPU control or GPU control
    • Level 8~1: CPU control or GPU control

correction on my initial post on the model, so my purchase last August 27, 2023 was the model PHN16-71-79H1, intel 139700HX, RTX 4060.

Thabks StevenGen, the temps you had placed then will shutting down gaming sessions that reaches 110 C ?

As an laptop/PC experienced user and a new customer, I would not risk testing it to reach those temps as I want to make my laptop last long and I am pretty sure it should run games such as Spiderman Remastered in safe temps below 80 C.

Are we expected to game and ignore temps reaching 90 C? and then pey it shut down? then whats the point of even having a gaming laptop that overheats?

  • There is an update for super io, related to thermal optimization:

I would try to update the bios to the latest version: BIOS

    1. Update ME for WiDi stability 2. Support new panel with G-Sync

So I have updated to the latest firmware, 1.12:

    -Performance mode-

    Spiderman Remastered:

2560x1440 res, very high settings including RTX+DLSS

After a few seconds CPU reaches 95 C

This is not acceptable for current standards
