Hey guys. Predator newbie here so excuse my ignorance. I recently got my tower about a couple months ago. I picked up some Crucial Pro 2x16 ram(the one compatible for our pc's). For some reason I cannot get it to go up the 4800 speed. They are both stuck at 4400. When I do turn on xmp, they go up to 5600 but the system seems unstable. Is there a fix for that or setting in bios that I can try?

My tower did do the automatic bios update that came with the windows update ~ 2-3 weeks ago. I forget the version but that one unlocked the xmp function. After digging around on the forums, I noticed that there was an even newer version from July of 23 (not the same version from the windows update). So today I updated to R01-B0, and I'm still stuck at 4400. I've read other posts of some other guys getting the 4800 speed. Ive read another post of someone running 4 sticks without any issues. I'm just wondering if there were any tips or settings I should change that would hopefully help me unlock the full ram potential. Thanks ahead of time!

Just to add, the version before that I couldn't remember was R01-A3(xmp was still able to be turned on with this version). I checked to make sure that before I updated to the R01-B0. All of these procedures were just performed in the past 6 hours.

I'm pretty sure when you update the BIOS you have to turn it back on again, just like i had to when using 2 or 4 sticks each one is independent from the other. and what do you mean the system seems unstable? I'm running crucial 4x16@4800MHz and I'm having no issues at all. other than the first boot sometimes doesn't work right. but if you just keep pressing enter on the keyboard it will take you to the login screen, that one i don't have an answer for.

Hey man, isn't there a danger in updating the BIOS? I think the Acer website itself says updating BIOS might brick the PC. Is that true? How much is the risk? The reason I ask is because I bought 2 16GB XPG Ram sticks which should tun at 5200 MT/s but can not get them above 4400 as my BIOS is locked.

as far as the instability, with xmp enabled, clicking on and opening certain programs makes them hang up. Like there is a delay. Sometimes they freeze a little bit before doing anything. With xmp off and running at 4400mhz, the system runs like a dream. At one point I did try to run 4x16 sticks of all of the same crucial ram and could not get it to boot. The tower would turn on. But the monitor would display nothing and not auto-power on. I did not try keep hitting enter like you suggested at that time. Perhaps the 5600mhz is too much? I did also notice that when I briefly run 4 sticks, without xmp on, that my speed dropped to 4000mhz but would also get random blue screens and it would restart. 4 sticks and xmp on led me to the No boot situation. It seems that the system only liked 2x16 sticks @ 4400 with no xmp enabled. This is why I’m stumped.

what crucial did you buy the pro or standard 5600? I'm running 4800 with no issues at all @ 4x16. and yeah, i was only getting 4000 before the BIOS update. well, it could be only 4x16 works when 4800. i only know one other person with a 5000 running 2x16@5600MHz and they have no issues at all, but they are using corsair dominator.

can you return it? it should run super smooth, but it isn't so getting the 4800 like i have would be the next best option.

I’m sure I’m past the return point. Tbh I might just run it for the time being with just the two sticks at 4400mhz, then just get another mobo and switch what I can over to my Hyte y60 I got sitting in the box. Just chaps my butt bc the crucial website specifically said it was compatible on their website. I just wasn’t sure if I was missing a setting or something in the bios that I was not aware of.

well, to be honest 4 sticks at 4000 is faster than 2 sticks at 4400 on games and benchmarks, i tested both ways. and if you bought it from crucial, they have a 30-45 return window. ide call them and ask it's a free call and i have called them numerous times, maybe something is wrong with yours and they can do an exchange-refund. and nope no hidden settings in the bios, they just unlocked that feature with the last update also 64 gigs beat out 32 any day at any frequency when i tested mine.

Just got home and put in the other 2 sticks for a total of 64gb(4x16) @ 4000mhz. I'm going to test them tonight and tomorrow and report back. Pc booted like normal this time with the 4 sticks. Maybe a fluke at first on the previous attempts? Going to see how it goes tonight. Thanks for your help so far Chugzilla.

appreciate it buddy! Ditched the stock cooler a couple weeks ago. Definitely couldn’t fit the sticks in past it. Now all I have to do is pop a fan off my cpu cooler and it’s a breeze lol

awesome ha-ha yeah same here. pc looks amazing, what cooler master CPU cooler did u get? i went with the Noctua NH-U12A its amazing and what fans do you have on the cooler and top rack? i have cooler master high velocity mobius fans on my cooler my stock cooler fan along with another from someone else are on my top rack. this is how i run mine when gaming, no top front or sides panels-covers on and the temperatures im getting are unreal. 32-38 CPU and 48 GPU i also removed the HDD caddy and GPU bracket both were blocking the air flow from the front fans.

I appreciate it buddy! Yours gave me the idea to add the top fans. The cooler is a the Cooler master hyper 212 black edition. I used the factory cpu fan to push and the cooler master fan to pull. The set up works really good. I barely touch 58 gaming. Idle sits around 27. Top fans are thermaltake ct120’s. I almost went to micro center to get that noctua nhu12a but I stopped at my Best Buy near me first. 90 bucks for the cpu cooler master and 2 fans. Figured it was worth the gamble. It paid off. The top fans and upgraded cooler make a massive difference(as you know). The gpu tops out around 64- 66 gaming full tilt. I might ditch the gpu too. Did you do anything else to brace it or was it not needed after taking off the bracket?

that's awesome all good stuff. good job !!@!! if you look at my picture i have a cooler master argb bracket underneath it and it works great. and do you use predator sense to manage the fan speeds? you should be getting lower temps than that unless your ambient room temps are high. run them in gaming mode so they cool the best they can. i run all 9 of my fans at 100% when gaming for maximum cooling. i have the 3070 i see you have the 3080 so it may run warmer depending on the game and settings and monitor resolution.

Ohhh. I just noticed that argb bracket. That looks sharp. I'm going to look into that. I do use the predator sense and always set it to gaming. I am running it to a 2k @ 3440x1440 msi 34" monitor @ 144hz. All settings are on full tilt too. It looks amazing. Coming from running an old msi 1070gtx laptop on the same monitor, I was happy with the temps. I was always pushing that poor old laptop to the max, always battling temps lol

yeah, ok that makes sense I'm on a 1080P Acer Predator 27 inch@240Hz prob why my temps are much lower and it's a 3070 i don't think they run as warm as a 3080 and I'm in an air-conditioned basement my ambient temps are 62-66F so that makes a big difference. and using the open-air design also helps lower temps heh.

The risk involved with a Bios update on a desktop is that you might have a power outage during the update. Not a terribly big risk in most environments…

Thanks man! I just did that and after going into BIOS and enabling the XMP (as you mentioned in another post) now I see my RAM speed is 5200 MT/s! You are the man! Thanks again!
