edited August 2023 in Aspire Laptops

installing the storage drivers doesn't work, I tried.

Since I really hate windows 11, but still needed windows because school is school, I just wiped the drive with gparted live, repartitioned it (half windows, half linux, with 5gb swap space) to dual boot it. Seems to have ****** something up cuz now the windows 10 installer won't even see the drive. I wiped it again and installed ubuntu, works fine so not an issue with the drive. Can I even fix it? If I can, how? Thanks in advance.

    Fixed it!

    This is no universal solution, but for the next few clueless readers of this thread, here's the process:

    Enter bios (If you haven't set up your bios password, do that first, a bunch of options are just locked otherwise)

    Go to the main tab, then press ctrl + s, doing so will show the VMD option, which you can disable

    then just boot to your usb again and the drives should show up

    here is a link, for your convenience:

    and that's pretty much it. Thanks!

    What is the exact model number of your laptop, as you might not be preinstalling certain drivers that are needed for the Win-11 installation to recognize your boot drive.

    @StevenGen

    I just realized I posted to the wrong thread by accident. It's an aspire vero, model # is N20C5 and the non identified number is AV15-52-791N.

    I really don't want windows 11, I want windows 10. Then again I assume they have basically the same requirements regarding the drive, but I just want to make sure the instructions you may give don't apply exclusively to windows 11.

    pretty sure I did it already, but there is nothing wrong in trying again, do you happen to have a link I can follow?

    Oh and another problem real quick, on the drivers and manuals page, after entering my model number, I'm shown 3 drop down lists, none of them actually drop down tho, so I can't seem to get any drivers at all.

    I do clean install of all PCs after I buy them as I don't use the Acer oem install OS.

    And that can cause issues for anyone not already really savvy… Best to leave the stock build and modify it as wanted. In this case, since the owner wants both Windows and Linux going the route of disabling VMD is likely the best solution. Normally for Windows users it's best to just install the iRST drivers so you get access to the extra features.
