I own a predator laptop, PH315-53-749K

My display stopped working all of a sudden and I’ve tried and checked everything, I now want to upgrade the display instead of replacing it so I get a better resolution, G sync and more…

I don’t have much knowledge in laptop displays so I did a quick research.

my question is will it work with the laptop?(BIOS stuff and dimensions)

Here’s the display I want to buy(LG) in comparison to the current one(SHARP):

The best way to change and do any modifications to your laptops screen is to know what oem screen you have fitted in your PH315-53 laptop, these are all the screens fitted to your Predator Helios 300 PH315-53 laptop which range from 120Hz/165Hz and 240Hz refresher rate screens:

    Screenshot 2023-08-07 130640.jpg

For a 240Hz screen you also need a new eDP cable like listed below

    image.png

As you can see the highlighted screen model above is the LQ156M1JW09 which is a 40pin video connector 240Hz refresh rate screen which is a very high-quality screen, and the first screen listed the B156HAN13.0 0A is a 144Hz refresher rate 40 pin video connector screen, so your laptop has high quality screens fitted.

You need to find out which screen is currently fitted to your PH315-53 laptop, as you are only limited to what size pin video connector screen that your laptop has, as your PH315-53 does not have a 30-pins video connector that can only have a 60Hz refresher rate screen. The PH315-53 has a 40-pins video connector that can have a 120Hz/144Hz/165Hz/240Hz refresher rates screen. So that is what you need to find out and search the above screens, a good screen site is LS Laptop Screens where this LQ156M1JW09 screen for USD $119.99 is listed, so have a look there for all the screens that fit your PH315-53 laptop.

Thank you for the long answer

I have linked a comparison between 2 screens, one is my current screen and one is the screen I want to upgrade to.

I have used panelook.com and made sure the followings are the same:

    -Interface

    -size

    -pins

    -fixation

Yes that page is not really clear and its just put to the side and you need a magnifying glass to see it😁but I saw that and that is what you should be looking at, but the LS Laptop Screens site that I've given you a link to is also a great site, good luck and hope I've helped you out.

this is the display I want to install in my laptop: LP156QHG-SP

My question is would it work and fit in my laptop(acer predator Helios 300 PH315-53-749K)

Why would you want to fit an inferior 120Hz refresher rate screen into your laptop? The list above are all the Acer oem listed screens for your laptop, and in a specialist screen site called LS Laptop Screens they recommended this screen for your exact model laptop, which is a 40pin video connector with a refresh rate of 240Hz screen for your Acer Predator HELIOS 300 PH315-53-749K Replacement LCD screen from $109.99

    can i upgrade predator helios 300 ph315-54 Display from 165hz to 240hz?

NO, the PH315-54 that you have only has a top refresher rate screen of 165Hz. The below list is all the screens that Acer fits to the PH315-54 laptops, the bottom 3 screens are all 165Hz refresher rate screens that can't be upgraded to 240Hz.

The only 16" screen that will be compatible and will fit straight into your PHN16-71 laptop and will be a better and an upgrade screen to your Acer fitted oem Chi Mei - N160JME-GT1 - WUXGA 1920 X 1200 - 165Hz screen, is to fit a screen from the PHN16-72 model laptop, which is the:

    • Innolux N160GME-GTB C2 – which is a WQXGA - 16" IPS LCM - 2560×1600 500nits WLED eDP 40pins - refresher rate: 240Hz - CMN1617.

This is the only high end screen with the WQXGA - 16" IPS LCM - 2560×1600 500nits and 240Hz refresher rate screen that Acer fits oem to the PHN16-72 which is also compatible and will fit into the your PHN16-71 model laptop. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

    Innolux N160GME-GTB C2 - 16" IPS LCM 2560(RGB) ×1600, WQXGA  188PPI WLED eDP 40pins 240Hz CMN1617

NE160QDM-NY1 - is another wonderful WQXGA screen with high specifications and 165Hz refresh rate.

You don't need to change drivers after a display replacement.

ok, but what about the performance? my laptop has a 4050 6gb gpu

  • StevenGen
    StevenGen ACE Posts: 15,337 Trailblazer

Performance should improve with the RTX4050 6GB gpu and it will be the same with the better screen image quality.

But, BE AWARE AND ALWAYS DO THIS, when you change the screen to the new high end screen below:

    • Innolux N160GME-GTB C2 – which is a WQXGA - 16" IPS LCM - 2560×1600 500nits WLED eDP 40pins - refresher rate: 240Hz - CMN1617.

That you MUST first disconnect the power adapter from the laptop and disconnect the main laptop battery before you disconnect the eDP screen plug cable from the mainboard and screen, as if you don't do this, you will short the laptops chipset chip and brick the laptop, its the same if you change the RAM and the M.2 SSD drive, as there should be NO POWER active in the laptop when you change a screen or an M.2 SSD drive, so be aware of this before doing any upgrades. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.
