My Acer Swift 3 is now two years old and over the past month, I have had increasing difficulty in trying to get beyond the opening log in screen requesting my PIN. After entering my PIN, which I know is correct, I get a message saying "This sign-in option is disabled because of failed sign-in attempts or repeated shutdowns. Use a different sign-in option, or keep your device powered on for at least 2 hours and then try again."

Leading up to when this problem started occurring, I had noted that when I was using the Swift 3 to stream music, it would go to sleep and increasingly I would have trouble waking the laptop back up. Now it seems like it is going to sleep and shutting down very quickly so I can't even get it to stay powered on for 2 hours.

I've tried Internet searches regarding this problem but the only results that seem likely to help me require that I am signed in to follow the necessary instructions!

Can anyone offer a solution or way that I can get signed in to then try and address the sleep/shutdown issue?

Many thanks.

ron

@Raltem make sure no one else is trying to access the laptop. Try to disable the PIN login, sign out the Microsoft account (if you have one for this laptop), and then set up the password with PIN login again.

If you leave the laptop to stream music alone, just plug the charger in so that it won't shut itself down from a dying battery.

@AnhEZ28 Thanks for responding. Per your suggestions: 1 - no one else is trying to access the laptop that I am aware of; 2 - I haven't been able to figure out how to disable the PIN login; 3 - the PIN is for the Microsoft account; 4 - the laptop always has the charger plugged in when streaming

    Thanks again

@Raltem maybe you can switch to "sign in with local account instead". It will automatically sign out of the Microsoft account.

@AnhEZ28 Only option I have on the sign-in screen is to enter my PIN. Nothing else is available and I can't get past that screen to access settings, etc. Thanks for your continued interest and suggestions

@AnhEZ28 Thanks for your continued interest in trying to provide some assistance. Below are three pictures from trying to access my Acer.

First one is screen that displays after powering up. Second asks for my PIN. Third is the message I get when I correctly enter my PIN (which is the same for my desktop unit). I have tried to keep the Acer on for 2 hours but if I'm not hitting the space bar every 7-8 minutes, it seems to go to sleep, won't wake up, and then shuts down.

I am completely vexed… thanks again

p.s. - apologize if there was a better way to display pictures. I rarely use forums and don't know all of the ins and outs of proper posting and/or etiquette

@AnhEZ28 I can not get to Settings to try and sign out because I can't get into the computer. Maybe I'm missing something or don't understand but as the three screen shots show, I have not be able to get into the computer. Is ther some kind of key combination that will bypass the MS sign-in process?

@billsey - thanks for your input as to clicking on the "forgot my PIN" link . When I do that, it takes me to a Microsoft Account sign-in screen and asks me to enter my password. After doing that, I'm asked to have a verification code sent to my rescue email address (gmail). I've tried several times but I never get the verification code in my gmail inbox. I've used "All Mail" to check all locations but don't find a code.

Check to make sure gmail has microsoft.com whitelisted, otherwise those emails will often get junked.

@billsey Thanks for your help but I checked the junk folder and never found the email. I did whitelist microsoft.com as you suggested, though.

@AnhEZ28 Spent two+ hours yesterday with a countdown timer set for 10 minutes and once it buzzed, would hit the space bar. Finally was able to sign in and extended sleep/shutdown limits in hopes this problem won't reoccur. Thanks again for your help, too.
