Nitro AN515-57 - downclock CPU stuck for extended period of time

I got Nitro AN515-57 three months ago, using it for game development.

I get a weird performance issue periodically. CPU seems to get thermal or power throttled, but when the condition resolves it still stuck at 800MHz for 5-10 minutes, causing horrible system performance.

All bundled drivers are installed, bios is the latest one, windows power plan set to performance, laptop is always plugged.

I get it that laptop works on the edge of stability temperature-wise under load and I'm OK with short-term throttling, but what I get is clearly a bug.

Any tips how to solve this? I googled and found similar questions related to this laptop, but no valuable answers so far.

    Welcome @cheerkin,

Try uninstalling the devices below in Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) to fix stuck frequency at 800 MHz:

    • Microsoft AC Adapter
    • Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
    • Intel® Core™ i5-11400H CPU

    Then restart your computer! 😉

    Regards.

Yeah, thanks, thats funny. Though if I restart, it fixes itself anyway, no need to uninstall everything.

Update: I used ThrottleStop to debug the issue, and the reason for underclocking is BD_PROCHOT from motherboard. If I set TS to ignore it, then all good.

What may be the reason for continuously getting BD PROCHOT, while PC/GPU/Chipset temps are good?

Please download and run for a few minutes the HWMonitor tool. And then post here a screenshot with the all sensor readings.

I have the same problem. After some time of playing my cpu lock at 0.19 ghz, wait 5/10 minutes then work again. It feels like motherboard or CPU lost power and work at 5% of normal.

Someone know, is it a driver version, windows update or nvidia update or what?
