I have an ACER aspire 3 i5 laptop. It is about 5 years old. I mainly use it for work - word documents, excel, internet, pdfs, mind mapping softwear etc. I don't game on it. It has been running smoothly but for the last two days it has become hot and the fan is on constantly. Today when I switched it on, this started immediately.
I have 'balanced' power option, the light on screen is always dim, it happens when I my battery is plugged in (and not plugged in), drivers appear up to date, I have scanned for malwear. I have trouble shooted power, I have tried keeping my laptop fan unobstructed by a surface,. It does not have anything plugged into it's USBs. I have checked task manager and CPU is high - This occurs even when I am not using any programs. I have read this causes damage. I read here
https://www.techosaurusrex.com/how-to-stop-laptop-fan-from-running-all-the-time/
about cleaning air vents with a hoover but I am a bit worried about it. I'm not sure if the fan as accumulated dust or how it might!
In terms of high CPU: the % for system interrupts is going quickly between 3% and 13%
High disk % is caused by Service Host: sysmain
- I don' t know what these are though!
Further info: The only thing I can think of/see is AVG says everything is up to date but is suggesting I need to restart my computer. Normally when it has done some sort of update this updates automatically when I shut down my laptop. However, last night when shutting down it did not come up as an option. I thought by shutting down and then starting again this morning it would do the 'restart' job but AVG still has that message there. Does restart do something different to shut down/ turning back on?
I don't know what to do and I am VERY WORRIED! Please can someone help? It would be much appreciated!
