Predator Orion 3000 PO3-620 Upgrading CPU and CPU cooling, RAM and GPU.

Hi guys,

My pre-built Predator from (3?) years ago is not enough these days and I'm planning to upgrade it.

Current specs:

Operating System: Windows 11 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 22621)
System Manufacturer: Acer
System Model: Predator PO3-620
BIOS: R01-A1 (type: UEFI)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400F CPU @ 2.90GHz (12 CPUs), ~2.9GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM Kingston 2x8GB DDR4 2666 (1333MHz)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER 6GB

I want to buy these parts to upgrade:

CPU: Intel Core i7-10700KF
Cooling: Noctua NH-U9S
RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 32GB [2x16GB 2666MHz DDR4 CL16 DIMM]
GPU: ASUS GeForce RTX 3070 DUAL 8GB OC V2 LHR

My biggest questions are: Can the power supply (500W presumably) handle this upgrade? Are the parts good?

Hi,

You need a 650w PSU for RTX 3070 card, Kingston Fury may work but there's no settings available to enable XMP profile in BIOS, so I would suggest you buy memory modules with JEDEC profile.

The Noctua cooler should give you that extra ooomph needed for the K series CPU. It will run hotter than your 10400F though due to the higher power. You might look at the i9-10900F instead, it'll likely be better than the KF model and uses the same power as your current chip.

Thank you so much for your time and the recommendations guys. I'll definietly check the i9 processor instead. When it comes to the PSU upgrade, as long as I keep in mind the size and get the adapter

- I should be good, right? RAM is way more tricky for me (I know very little about it), would you be so kind as to give me some direct recommendations for 2x16gb sticks?

Before making the final decision, is buying this 3 year old stuff still future proofing? Or do you think I should go for a new mobo?

i think if anything a new case, the 3000 series is very limited, i have a 5000 and the upgrade possibilities are greater because its a bigger-larger case with more options imo, all you can do is see how much those upgrades will cost vs a new case n MB vs the 3000 case with upgrades, you can even get a 5000 series pc missing parts on ebay cheap and use that to rebuild with, you have a lot of options.

Changing motherboards is a much bigger step that the other options. It requires also that you replace the CPU and memory. Basically all you would be keeping is the case and drives, with a case change as well you'd be replacing everything except the drives. If you decide to go that way then it's so much easier to just replace the whole system. I am also running a PO5 model, which other than price has a lot of features the PO3s do not. Remember that the PO3-620 is an ATX12VO design, so power supply replacement is a problem. You have enough right now to do the suggested mods but anything deeper is going to be pretty close to a new build.
