I have an Aspire 3 A315-21-47EU with AMD A4-9120E processor and 8GB RAM (4GB internal and 4GB DIMM). I bought a Kingston 16GB DIMM DDR4 2666MHz (part# KCP426SD8/16) based on the info in this post:

When I boot up after installing the dimm, I get an IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL blue screen, then it goes into a reboot loop alternating with KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED blue screen.

When I put the original dimm back in it boots fine.

Is my ram not compatible? Is it defective? Is there just some configuration step I need to do?

    Read this technical review:

Your model: DDR4-2400, Single-channel, One memory slot (occupied), 4 GB soldered. (Source: Acer).

A4-9120: Entry-level APU from AMD's Stoney Ridge lineup. Integrates 2 CPU cores clocked at 2.2 - 2.5 GHz, a single-channel DDR4-2133 memory controller. This AMD motherboard is low-end, that does not support Dual Channel mode while 8GB is the maximum RAM (definitely not 20GB) so you cannot upgrade the 4GB DDR4 in slot 1😐️

FYI, the Model A315-21-90LC with the A9-9420e CPU supports 12 GB maximum RAM (4+8GB).

    Steven attaches a list with different CPUs/MOBOs (A4-A9) for your model with a total maximum RAM of 16GB DDR4 which means 4 + 12GB (not 1 x 16GB if 4GB DDR4 is already soldered).
