Hi all,

I have an Acer Aspire 5 A517-52 Part Number: NX.A5CAA.009. I was wondering if the motherboard would support Wifi 6 card. The laptop came with a Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A 802.11ac Dual-Band 2T2R Wi-Fi + Bluetooth v4.2 Combo M.2 Module. I was looking at getting either an Intel AX200NGW or AX210NGW. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

To change a Wi-Fi/BT card on a laptop like your Aspire A517-52 that was fitted oem with a Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A oem card, the connector has to be the same, the A517-52 has a Wi-Fi/BT connector type M.2 (NGFF) 2230, so you can oinly upgrade the card to a Wi-Fi 6 card with the same M.2 (NGFF) 2230, but not every Wi-Fi 6 card features will be utilised by your laptop, so be careful to what card you upgrade to, this laptop SG quotes that Acer fitted two different cards to your laptop into the A517-52s SG and they are,

    1. Connector Type: M.2 (NGFF) 2230 - Qualcomm Atheros NFA344A Wifi/BT Combo Module Interface - Interface PCIe/BT: USB
    2. Connector Type: M.2 (NGFF) 2230 - Intel AX201 Wifi/BT Combo Module Interface: Wifi: CNVi/BT: BRI

Your oem fitted card the Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A has a connector type M.2 (NGFF) 2230 and the one up upgrade for your oem card is the Intel AX210 WiFi 6E BT 5.2 Tri-Band card that will also fit into the laptops slot, don't fit the newer cards like the KIller AX1650i as you will never utilise their features, as you can see below the OEM Qualcomm is missing two pins at E which the Intel AX210 has and the more modern WiFi 6 cards have, like the AX210 and the AX1650i have.

    OEM Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A

    Intel AX210 WiFi 6E BT 5.2 Tri-Band

StevenGen, thank you so much for the information. I will be looking at getting an Intel AX200 from Amazon since AX210 (WiFi6e) is not available in my area, only WiFi 6. Once I get the replacement card, I will post pictures and the results. Cheers.

Update: I got an Intel model AX200 from Amazon for $25+taxes. I did not have the time to take pictures. The original card had Bluetooth 5.0 and the new one has 5.2. Changing the card from ac to ax did increase the bandwidth by just over 200 Mbps. Thanks for your input.
