Hi everyone.

I have a Nitro 5 model AN515-54-79YX. I'd like to use 2 m2 SSDs in Raid 0 mode. I tried to configure it on BIOS, without success. Does anybody know how to do it?
I tried to connect two identical SSDs and enable the RST Sata mode (I tried both, RST with optane and RST premium with optane). but I can't find any BIOS option to configure the two disks as a Raid 0 array.

    »>RST premium with optane»>

Yes, set to Intel RST premium optane to support RAID. Then install Windows using media creation tool which should offer option to install in RAID mode.

Thanks for the answer @JackE. By the way, where did you find these details about the SATA mode options?

Highlight SATA mode option in BIOS MAIN tab. Description should appear in right pane You may have to press Ctrl+S to reveal any hidden options or descriptions.

First of all, thanks for the help @JackE
. But I've tried to follow the steps mentioned on your answer, without success. I configured Sata Mode to RST Premium with Optane and tried to install windows using the two disks. During the installation, I keep seeing two disks instead of one. I also tried to create a stripe volume using diskpart. Althought, the new stripe volume seems ok, I can't use this volume to install Windows (an error occurred. Something related to a dynamic disk).
So, Maybe the steps you mentioned are part of the solution, but I still can't configure my disks as a Raid 0 array. Do you have any more suggestions?

Open Control Panel. Search 'spaces'. Click 'Storage Spaces' in left pane. Then scroll down this link to the section on how to setup raid using Windows Storage Spaces utility.

Ok, now I got it. The steps you described are for a software Raid on Windows. Do you know @JackE if it's possible to do a hardware Raid on the related Nitro 5 model?

Used to be but may not be any more with iRST since it seems sorta integrated with the Windows OS. iRST causes havoc under Linux. I have an older NItro without iRST that was set up as a plain-jane hardware RAID. I de-RAIDed It by installing the operating system with one of the drives disconnected Then re-connnected it as D or sdb. BIOS SATA mode is still set as (non-iRST) RAID even though it's not. If I hadn't disconnected the other drive before installing the operating system whether Windows or Linux, I think would've been hardware RAIDed again.

  • Can you send a screenshot of this setup?

Through this program, you can configure raid 0 and raid 1. It is necessary that both ssds have the same storage size and be nvme.

No @egydiocoelho , because I don't even installed the Windows yet. i was trying to configure the Raid 0 first and then start the installation process. I don't know if there are performance differences between hardware and software Raid configuration and I think that the hardware one could be better. Do you have any suggestions?

By the way, thanks for the answer…👍️

AFAIK, the BIOS irst RAID SATA mode setup relies on irst or iVMD Windows storage controller drivers hence my suggestion they're sorta integrated or half & half The irst RAID SATA mode does not yet play well with Linux likely because no Linux irst or iVMD storage controller drivers yet. So in order to install Linux, irst & iVMD mode must first be changed to plain-jane AHCI or non-irst RAID mode (if available) that are both compatible with the drivers in Windows, Wndows safe mode and Linux

Intel's claimed advantage of iRST and iVMD is that they're faster than AHCI or plain-jane hardware RAID but only for Window. Since my machine's are multi-boot and thus have been changed to garden-variety AHCI or are true RAID mode as with my old Nitro, I reallly can't tell if Intel's claima about irst & vmd are true or false.

Hey guys. Just giving a feedback to you @JackE and @egydiocoelho.

I'm almost without hope to solve my scenario…hahahaah
After some reading on articles about Raid0 and Windows, I think I realized that it's not possible to install Windows on a software Raid 0 array. I believe every founded example was setting the disks as a dynamic disk and the Windows installation process doesn't allow to use this type of disk configuration. Also, there's a tricky detail. I need to create the Raid 0 with the same disk that the Windows installation will be done. So, I believe this isn't possible for software Raids because I think the data will be erased while the array will be created.
So, to conclude, unless there's a possibility to configure a Raid 0 on Bios to enable only one disk to the Windows installation, I think it won't be possible to do this configutation. What do you guys think?

By the way, thank you guys for your help…👍️

I think you should follow the directions and use partition wizard Way 3 to do the job.

  • Hello! I also have an AN515-54. I mounted a raid 0 between two nvme ssds: a sx6000lnp and a western digital sn250. Both with 512GB and totaling 1TB after assembly. Performance practically doubled after mounting raid 0. However, I remember this causing a bug. For some reason, when I accessed the bios, I had problems booting windows. To this day I haven't figured out the reason for this problem.

Huum, thanks for the feedback @egydiocoelho. How did you configure the Raid? It was before your SO installation? I can't find any option related to this on Bios.

  • I configured it after installing windows, with the intel rapid storage program.

Probably because the generic IRST app, like the OEM-specific NitroSense app, accesses low level BIOS functions from the Window environment. Might be OK for generic mainboards. But buggy in proprietary stuff. Even the NitroSens app is very model specific. I'd still give partition wizard a try.
