Hi.

I have an acer spin 3 that has a touch screen. It's suddenly stopped working. It was working up to about a week ago. I've followed the instructions re HiD but there's no options there for touch screen.

I'm not technically minded so I am struggling to make it work again so any help would be very well received.

Thanks Lee.

Your touch screen digitizer connects to the motherboard throough an internal USB port. Sometimes those ports get confused and give garbled data, which the system interprets as an error. Try removing the USB host controllers from Device MAnager, then a reboot to reinstall them. That oftens fixes the issue.

I don't know for sure what the actual root cause is, but I believe it was a change that MS made to the HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) a couple of years ago in anticipation of changes they wanted to do for Windows 11. It's been real tough to fully pin it down because it seems so random. Sometimes it's fixed completely by a simple driver reset, sometimes it takes a full reinstall of the OS before it's fixed. I wish they'd get a handle on it so it wouldn't appear in the first place. We've been seeing it for two or three years now. :(
