Using display port + HDMI simultaneously if it would show both resolutions at the same time

Might be a dumb question, but up until now I've only owned laptops with HDMI

I am now using a switchbox to go back & forth between laptop viewed on a TV (1080p) & a Widescreen Monitor (Standard resolution, not 4K)

If I were to connect a display cable to my monitor & a HDMI cable to my TV could I essentially do away with using the switch box & have both displays ran at once, or sepately when powered off?

Not sure if the difference in resolution will throw things off & if it will choose one to use on both TV & monitor or if it would show both resolutions at the same time

Thanks

Sure if the monitor has a DisplayPort input connnector. You should be able to set resolutions through the GPU control panels depending on which monitor and PC you have. It might be helpful if you could reveal what monitor and PC brands and model number you have.
