This thing is brand new, 3 days old. It got a i7-12700H and RTX 3060. When I tried playing NFS Payback the fans instantly ramped up to max, 85-90*C, also hitting 100*C. This isn't normal. What could it be? Should I change the thermal paste? It shouldn't be that since it's new.

For a new laptop you should not have those temps if you have setup your laptop properly? Install the latest NVidia graphics driver and also GeForce Experience software and play NFS Payback through that software as NVidia has gone to allot of troubles to set these games up for your GPU to perform at its ultimate and with the best settings, don’t change any settings or overclock or do any mods to the GPU or CPU, also in Nvidia Control Panel go to Program Files > set the NFS Payback to run on the High=performance Nvidia processor also. Update the VBIOS Version:1.04a and the bios to the latest Version:1.13 but be careful as Acer warns all consumers that "Upgrading your system BIOS incorrectly could harm your Acer product. Please proceed with caution" so be careful and if you don't know how to do a VBIOS or a BIOS update get a tech to do it for you! Be warned as I take no responsibility if you brick your laptop!

Make sure that you have at least 16GB (2x8GB DDR4-32000Mhz CL22 type RAM) preferably 32GB (2x 16GB DDR4-3200MHz CL22) which will run the memory in Dual Channel that is best for gaming.

Also make sure that all Win-11 Updates are up to date and install theIntel® Driver & Support Assistant and make sure that all Intel drivers are up to date also. As doing all this will make you laptop perform at its best. Don't repaste the CPU/GPU as that could void your warranty of your laptop.

I'll try updating the VBIOS but I think its already updated. I updated my BIOS to 1.13 before this. My laptop runs on dual channel with 16GB. I'll update Intel drivers since I think those are outdated and also my CPU heats the most.

I did everything you told me but temperatures hit 82*C.

The 82⁰c when playing a high end game is not a high temp if it doesn’t get any higher but if it gets to 100⁰c I suggest that you send this laptop back to Acer as this overheating problem could be from a motherboard circuitry faults at the power stages of the laptop, which if they are faulty or not working 100% can cause the gpu/cpu to overheat, especially a mosat that is probably deteriorating and not controlling power properly and needs analysing or changing, which Acer will NOT do as Acer Tech Support will change the motherboard with a new one. Do this now and complain to Acer as your laptops motherboard has circuitries quality control issues that you will experience a dead motherboard if you let this matter go, as these new laptops or even a 14 months old laptops motherboards are very expensive and if you leave it for later on, this problem will get worse.

Hello, I managed getting temps lower just by lifting the back of the laptop up. I saw many laptop gamers use cooling pads. I'll buy a high quality one and hope it will do something

out the box the an 515-58 is normal to run at these temps as the every option is set to on on the cpu power managment. so it max turbo boost during games. the power management is set to aggressive on the cpu side. ive gotten my temps from gaming in the mid 90s down to mid 70s low 80s just by simply going into my power plan and reducing the maximum power to my cpu by 15% this had no impact on my performance of the cpu and my temps are perfect. the acer nitro 5 is well known to be a hot laptop out the box
