I have an acer nitro 5 laptop (Nitro AN515-57). I would love to know how to extend its lifespan as a whole. Cleaning the laptop is one that i know of. I've heard that the battery limiter is helpful too. If someone can guide me to how to set it, it would be great! Any other recommendations is welcome!!

    Hello!!

    @esse

    The general idea is if you use more than 30% of the batteries' capacity, recharge the battery rather than letting it sit for a long period (weeks+) partially discharged.
    If you are not draining the battery down to 70% or lower, the lifespan will/should not be affected as quickly. Batteries that sit (for a long time) at less than full capacity have a habit of not being able to fully charge again.

    Removing the battery is unnecessary. Simply charge it after use if you've drained any significant life from the battery while in use. It's that simple. If you're going to store the laptop without using it, ensure the battery is 100% (or close).

    Hi @esse

    General consensus on Lithium Ion batteries is that you can leave them plugged in 24/7 (100% charged) and that the lifespan may be increased by keeping them charged between 80-40%. I use the 100% - 20% range and my batteries last 5+ years or 1,000 full charge cycle counts, then I replace my battery as I get less than 2 hours working on battery. Not gaming, routine work, balanced Power plan with shutdown (hibernate) set below 10%.

    Cooling is the next important item to increase the lifespan of a laptop, keep your machine cool, avoid overheating, don't play big games and long HD videos on battery only, work in cool rooms as much a possible and most important of all maintain your cooling fans, periodically open the latop to clean completely the fan(s) including dust and lint accumulated in front of the heat sink(s) you may have to remove the fan to access dust traps at the fan outlet, may leave this to a computer shop if you don't like to tinker with your laptop. And always first disconnect the battery cable to the MOBO when doing any upgrading (RAM-SSD-Adapters) or cleaning inside your laptop.

    The other important point for laptop maintenance is shocks, dropping and avoiding all moisture/food, keep your keyboard absolutely clean (daily with plain water) and close the lid when not using it (for dust and bugs)😉
