I Have had this computer for 5 years. WIthin the last week or so, it has started to shutdown randomly. It happens on battery or when plugged in. THe battery checks out as good. The memory diagnostic says the RAM is good. I just downloaded HW Monitor to check Temps and Voltages. If it is one of those two things, what should i be looking for?

I know it will shutdown while asleep and plugged in because event viewer will let me know. But, and this could be coincidence, it also seems to happen when I lift it up to move it. What could cause that?

Any helps is appreciated!

Does the laptop completely turn off or just the screen, is there any lights showing as that is important to know. First, do a Hard Reset, disconnect the main battery and bios battery, take the ram out and leave the laptop like that for 15min, reconnect everything and if you have 2x ram modules only connect 1x ram module first and see if the laptop boots, as this will reset the super IO and bios chips.

If the reset doesn’t fix your problem then this random turning off can be cause by many issues like the battery (if you haven’t changed it since new) as batteries have a fuse (which is not the issue) but its memory circuitry could be an issue as the battery disconnects, it could be a bios issue that the bios needs reprograming or an internal power/charging stage internal circuitry failure of a component that needs diagnosing and changing. Give us more details of what is happening.

    THanks for the reply.

It completely turns off. There are no lights showing. I have the screen set to go off after certain amount of time when on battery. I can move the mouse or press a key and it comes back on. This issue is a complete shutdown.
Could the battery be going bad even though it checks out as good? It could be at any percentage level when this happens.

I will need to look up how-to's on your steps, but I think I can handle it.

As I said above, if you are still using a 5 year old battery then it could be that the battery has shut down and will fire up but has only so much charge and then turns off your laptop, as a 5 year old battery is at the end of its lifespan.

Unless you have the proper software to reset its lockdown and then open up the battery and resolder its fuse so that the battery can properly charge then you might as well get a new battery. Allot of technicians have these battery unlocking and diagnostic software’s and can open them up and fix their fuses, as really all the cheap batteries that being sold for half price to the oem original batteries that you buy online are all regenerated old batteries that their fuses are resoldered and software unlocked and then relabelled and then are sold on the web from you know which county on eBay or Amazon etc etc, that is why you have to be very careful when buying any new battery online and always s get an oem battery from a renowned Acer retailer.

Can you provide a couple links to Acer retailers that would have my battery replacement?
