My Aspire 5 A515-57 mousepad not working

I'm using Aspire 5 A515-57, bought two months ago. My mousepad stop working today.

I have tried the following three methods to fix it, but none of them work:

1) Press Fn + F7 (or only F7)

2) Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices > (Every single listed devices) > Driver > Update Driver

3) Reboot, deplug all the devices and power supply

May I know how to fix this please? One more thing to add is that I just have a Windows update available yesterday night. I didn't update it at first before my mousepad malfunctioned. I then updated it but the mousepad still doesn't work.

Hi,

Go to BIOS screen and move to Main tab, check whether the Touchpad mode is in I2C, if it's in PS2 mode, switch to I2C mode and see whether it helps.

Hi brummyfan2! Thank you so much for answering my question! I've tried following your step and entered the BIOS screen. But I can't see “Touchpad” under “main”. I've also tried searching it in other categories but seems like “Touchpad” is still missing.

Hi,

While you are in Main tab, press Ctrl+S buttons together, the Touchpad option will show up.

Thank you brummyfan2 for your reply! I can find the Touchpad option now. Yet, after changing the BIOS setting the touchpad still doesn't work :(

Try switching the Touchpad mode to PS2 mode, then go to Acer driver support and download the driver for SeiaIO, go to Device Manager and unstall Serial IO driver, install the downloaded driver, then switch to I2C mode for Touchpad in BIOS.

Hi @angcha

As your touchpad worked before with your original BIOS setting I would change the BIOS settin(s) back to the setting you had before the touchpad issue occurred and restore your system to an earlier point (before you had the problem). Using the keyboard Arrow Up-Down, etc, type “Create a Restore Point” in the search box and click on the “System Restore” option at the top of that window, alternatively open the Command Prompt (in Start) and type rstrui.exe followed by Enter and click next and select a date. This will restore the registry and may correct your Touchpad settings.
