Aspire AV15 Facial recognition for Windows Hello not working -"This option is currently unavailable"

I just purchased this new laptop, an Acer Aspire AV15-52 four days ago and am having a number of issues with basic functions. One is that the sign-in option to use Facial Recognition isn't working, it indicates “Facial recognition (Windows Hello) - This option is currently unavailable.” and the expanded portion says, “We couldn't find a camera compatible with Windows Hello Face.” The camera is in fact working. After 3 hours online with Microsoft support, they said to contact Acer.
All updates are current, including optional ones, and I also downloaded an additional camera driver from Acer to see if that would help. It didn't.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. There are multiple basic functions that seem to not be working properly and I'm unsure if I happened to get a lemon, or if there is a software/hardware issue.
