i am trying to use my Acer laptop as a second screen for work but can't do it I have HDMI cable and it still won't work my desktop is acer also can anyone advise, please

You won't have an HDMI in on the laptop. You can do something like Chromecast or VNC to display the computer image on the laptop, but it'll be just the same as what's already on the computer, not an extension like a second monitor will give you.
