So I just got an Acer Nitro 50 N50-640-UA91 which I am liking a lot except for one thing. I've had it now, three times, automatically put itself to sleep while I'm working. Just now, I am in email, switching between programs, installing printer drivers and the whole thing goes to sleep. It popped right back on when I hit the space bar, but it's annoying and possibly troubling? Any suggestions?

Thanks for that and I did think about that. But do power settings come into play when you are actually using the computer? I understand leaving the machine and coming back to find it asleep, but I will literally be typing on the keyboard and it goes to sleep. I'll poke around the power settings link you provided and see if I see anything there.

  • Hi @adamspt2 What you are saying is not normal, while the computer is in use it should neither suspend nor hibernate.

Please run "troubleshooting" from the control panel:

I found a troubleshooter for “Power” under System»Troubleshoot»Other troubleshooters. The only recommendation it made was to switch to a more efficient setting. I'm not positive that's what you inteded for me to run though?

  • Well, try and see what happens, I don't think it could be the problem either, tell us.

So I figured out the problem. The keyboard that came with has a key combo to put the machine to sleep….and I keep hitting that. What in the world? Off to see if I can disable that ‘feature’.

yeah these keyboards need to come with the default being the FN key disabled, instead of enabled. I had the same annoying problem when I first got my Acer desktop. To disable the FN key just press FN and Esc at the same time so you can use your f1-f12 keys like a normal keyboard.
