I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54-599H, and whenever I turn it on, there's this strange rattling/growling noise it makes. It's pretty quiet. When I play games with it plugged up, it'll start making weird whirring sounds or a sound similar to a muffled motor. I had my dad open it so he could clean it, but he didn't lift up that little thing that protects the fans. (I'm not sure what to call it) so he might've not cleaned it thorougly. I reccommended trying to find some new fans, but the ones that I found online didn't have the best reviews. He also mentioned that it seemed like only one of the fans was having problems. What should I do? Should I open that little protection thing to clean it or should we buy new fans.

Those noises are definitely from the fan (s) blades that one fan had a bad bearing and cleaning it might have bent the shaft and now that fan is not spinning truly and its hitting its casing, as cleaning a good fan should not cause any distortion to the fans. Acer does not list oem fans only for the AN515-54 laptop only the whole Thermal Module with plastic fans, the best is to replace either the faulty fan or both fans, so you will have to get whatever is available on the web or lookup on the web for an official Acer parts retailer and get a replacement AN515-54 fan from them

These are the Thermal Modules and fans fitted to the AN515-54
