This laptop's display suddenly went out while playing a video game. The game is still running, just not the display. External monitor works.

The first thing I did was to resit/unplug-plug the eDP cable on the laptop's mobo, and it worked. But after a few seconds, the display suddenly glitched out, the top half is working, but the bottom half just hangs.

Tried to do the same process again, only for it to become worse, now the bottom half is just black, and then finally the whole display no longer works. So I thought the problem would be the 40-pin connection on the display itself, so I opened up the lid, and I saw it infested by ants, on the connector itself. Tried to clean it up, and it boots but still no display. So I thought its the eDP cable that needs to be replaced. So I bought a new eDP cable that is exactly the same as the old one.

Now suddenly, I just ended up making things worse, explained further here: Acer Nitro 5 not turning on — Acer Community

The problem is the laptop doesn't seem to actually turn on, the fans not spinning, and the keyboard not glowing, but the power indicator glows blue, which indicates that it is turned on.

Before this happened, I tried to further clean up the board of the display as well as the connector, plug it back into the laptop, then turn it on. When I turned it on, there was a metallic burning smell, but I can't find where exactly it comes from. I tried to track the smell, and it seems to be located near the SSD. I can't see any visible burn marks in that location. I check the eDP cable, and there are no burn marks either.

I already tried pressing F2 and then FN+F5 to show the bios on the external monitor, but it still didn't work.

Now, in summary, this laptop has 2 issues:

The display needs to be replaced.

The laptop is not turning on, even though the power indicator glows blue, and the laptop is fully charged.

Can this laptop still be saved?

If you see no display by pressing FN+F6 and no external HDMI TV display by pressing FN+F5, it's possible the GPU overheated and failed. I suggest taking it to a local laptop repair shop for an evaluation and repair cost estimate. It's quite difficult for us to advise you on line whether or not it can be saved without actually having the machine in front of us to work on.
