@zarr installing Windows 7 on the newer laptop will be mostly impossible due to the lack of drivers and incompatible components with older OS.

There is no need to use legacy mode in order to install Windows 7, just make sure the Windows7 version you are trying to install is sp1 rather than the original. Likely though you will have a bunch of issues, since there aren't drivers for that old of an OS for most modern machines, so a lot of stuff will just not work. You can get around some of that by using the stock OS and using VM software to run W7 in a VM.

Its not possible to change to "legacy" as it probs doesnt have the boot code! As Billsey says, a windows ISO with UEFI support may work but the experiance may be horrendus

Remember that engineers don't bother writing drivers for really old OSes when they come up with new hardware. It's just not warranted to spend money on that for an OS that's that old and unsupported. Why do you need Windows 7?
