Hello, I have a bone stock computer with the 3080, I7 12700F, 16GB ram. I made a thread before and in the thread I was wondering if I was able to upgrade my computer to the upcoming 4070/4070TI or a 4080. I now have another question.

My computer has a piece that holds the right side of the GPU and was wondering if I would to upgrade to a bigger GPU, more likely the 4070TI. If I would change my GPU, would I need a bracket to hold the right side or no? If you don't know what I'm talking about, I circled the bracket. https://imgur.com/a/Hr50RvD

what's everyone obsession with upgrading there already amazing gfx card to the new 40 series ? there not that much better the games won't look or play any better will they ? unless it's a new game made for them and there probably are not many atm and I'm guessing buying a new pc with all updated and new hardware etc might help? if I'm wrong i stand corrected but i see these yearly or every other year gfx card upgrades like cell phones and tv's each year...nothing mind blowing just small incremental upgrades so ppl buy them because they over hype them to hell trying to make people think they need them, but they don't. i have a 3070 paired with my i7 12000f and they are awesome i don't see how it can get any better where it's like wow look at that lol. but what do i know anyways it's just my opinion. feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or enlighten me on what i don't know.

OP, that bracket in your picture is not a must as it just gives extra support to the GPU. This is admittedly good when you are moving your PC around the house or transferring it from place to place. Some heavier cards come with their own adjustable support brackets, which you can use if you want. Some use figurines as supports to make their cards level.

If you end up ordering a new GPU, please make sure you have a way to power it. In my opinion, a real upgrade to a 3080 would be 4080 or 4090, but of course that depends on the resolution and framerate your monitor can handle.

    Hi Chugzilla,

Basically if you game at 4k on a TV then even a RTX 3090 won't give you 120fps at maxed out settings, the new 4000 series cards have DLSS 3.0 as opposed to 2.0 , this comes with frame generation, add to the extra graphical power of say the 4090 you should exceed 120fps on ultra settings on most titles, if you're gaming on a 1080p or 1440p screen then a 3070,3080,3090 is sufficient.

yeah, so it's all about 4k? and yes, i have 2 monitors both are 1080p but every now and again i hook it up to my 4k Vizio tv. and since I'm new to gaming I'm still learning about frame rates i play all my games on my acer predator monitor its 240 fps, so everything is smooth in 1080p. thx for explaining as always, you nailed it.

Yea so the PS5 and Xbox series X were marketed as 4k@120fps machines, triple A titles like Horizon forbidden west have fidelity modes and performance modes - so the fidelity mode runs at true 4K + ray tracing at 30fps, and performance mode would run at 1440p and hit around 60fps, and that wouldn't be ultra settings either.

It really is all about 4K gaming, and at this resolution your CPU and GPU will run alot hotter too. A 1080p full HD screen is just over 2 million pixels and a 2160p 4k screen is over 8 million pixels, so in gaming that's alot more detailed textures, and with higher refresh rates, hdr really makes for a nice gaming experience.

The difference between 30fps, 60fps and 120fps is noticable, i use to be happy console gaming at 30fps until i experienced the higher refresh rates, 30fps now by comparison feels like it stutters.
