HI

Just got my Acer 5

I am having a couple of issues with the 3.5mm jack

The icon next to it looks like a microphone so I am assuming that itd allow me to record via it if I were to insert a microphone

However when I do this in WIndows it seems the mic is not recognised as a recording device

I have tried TRS, TRRS mics

Is anyone able to confirm if it should in fact recognise a microphone and be able to record from it

Thanks

Check which apps have access to your microphone in Settings >Privacy & security >Microphone and there is a setting there "Let desktop apps access your microphone, as you must have the mic setup wrongly, also go to Time & language >Speech setup your mic for speech recognition.

You have a laptop. Laptop has internal mic.

So that mic icon is completely useless in telling you anything. For all we know, that icon is telling you that you are using the laptop's internal mic.

TRS mic has a compatible problem with audio combo jacks.

Notice this seller is explicitly saying that the mic is not compatible with combo jacks in laptops.

Plug in your 3.5mm mic, the computer should prompt you "which device did you plug in", if there is an option for mic-in then it MAY work (DEPENDING ON TRS OR TRRS).

Then lightly tapped your 3.5mm mic, if ANY mic signal meter jumps then it is working.

You mentioned TRS and TRRS microphones. What you need for a microphone/headset is a TRRS cable. Tip-Ring-Ring-Sleeve.

The 3.5mm connector on the laptop should accept the TRRS connector.

    Hope this helps!
