Accer Predator G3-572-76KE stutters and FPS drop

Hello !

So my laptop started to stutter almost 6 months ago , before it worked OK.

By stutter and FPS drop I mean :

-if I open google chroome I can see my mouse pointer freezing for 1-2 seconds when i try to move it.

-when i play Days Gone in the moment of high load I suppose , a FPS drops to 20-30 FPS from 3-4 seconds is present

I believe these two behaviors are connected...

I did the next things:

-installed different Windows 10 versions ( 1709 ,18 03 ,1809 , 20H1 , 22H2 ) and the same behavior

-used throttlestop for undervolt GPU and CPU , the CPU temperatures dropped after using it to 60-80 C degrees

-installed all drivers for accer official site and also instales drivers with Iobit driver separately

-installed diffrent versions of nvidia driver

=> no results noticed

After a fresh instal of windows and without installing any nvidia driver the stutter is not present when i open google chrome or any action I perform ( games I can't play...)

Userbechmarks results are all OK

Edit:

Also changed thermal paste and cleaned fans

Also I added extra 8 GB RAM ( 2 RAM slots used => 16 GB in total)

It could be hitting the termal limit on the CPU, but if it happens even when you undervolt / keep it to the 80's / 90's that could be a red herring. I was thinking thermal compound degradation

So now its to figure out if its the CPU temp causing the hitch, or the hitch causing a drop in FPS which drops its use! If you stress test the CPU does it cause it, and if not, you may need to do something like furmark and burntest at the same time

Did you make any significant hardware or factory Win10 changes 6 months ago?

I added 8 GB RAM so i have 2 slots used.Factory Win10 no I didn't, just updated needed.

BUT I have an updated:

For some resoan I specified that userbenchmark performance was ok (that I rememberd) but is wrong

I just installed fresh Windows 10 and Intel and Nvidia drivers from Accer site.

Also I updated Nvidia driver to latest version and it's the same result

could you drop a link to that result? With that being so low i have a feeling it used the inbuilt GPU to do the test

Aye very common, you need to force it to use the dGPU , you can do this if you head to start - graphics . It should give you a a Windows settings page which lets you choose what programs use what graphics card, make sure all the executables of user benchmark are set to high performance and re run :)

I did this setting and this problem is solved

But the general problem stil persists , I run again Day Gone and runs extremely bad

Thats ok it just gives us a bit more information :) The DX10 is well below what it should be getting, but the DX9 is ok.

What are the temps on the GPU like? Im wondering if its overheating after a little bit

The other thing is whats the version of the nvidia drivers? 22.21.13.8248 is pretty old!

GPU temps are ~78 most of the time , no spikes.

I installled 430.86 nvidia driver and the same result.

The CPU temps are 90-96 degrees and I notice when the stutter occurs CPU temp drops to 70-75 for ~2 seconds and get back to normal

I did some research on thermal limit for the CPU...

I found out that BD PROCHOT setting from ThrottleStop sets an offset value for CPU's thermal limit.

So I tried next scenarios when playing Days Gone fpr 2-3 minutes:

1.In ThrottleStop I checked BD PROCHOT and I didn't undervolted CPU or GPU => CPU temp 95-97 , stutters were present

2.In ThrottleStop I unchecked BD PROCHOT and I didn't undervolted CPU or GPU => CPU temp 95-97 , stutters weren't present

3.I deleted ThrottleStop => CPU temp 95-97 , stutters were present

I think this was the problem , termal limit for CPU

So my question are:

It is possible that some functions of CPU degrade over time/usage because I didn't change thermal paste when needed and resulted this situation?

If I try to lower the CPU temps , CPU will run longer time in safe condition?

Way too hot. The heat ducts might be clogged or the CPU fan isn't working as it should. Also, the laptop should be raised about an inch above a hard surface to promote better airflow in and out of the case.

Maybe the CPU quality degraded over time because I didn't changed the paste on time

So I managed to stabilize temp between 88-92 degrees using steps from :

What is CPU temperature when system is idling and not under gaming load?

The silicon can degrade over time as well, but i would expect this to be over a few more years :D , (or at least i always thought it did) by some bizzar coincident we were talking about the Q6600 and E8XX CPUs in work today and the top link for it is an AndAndtech for the e8500 https://www.anandtech.com/show/2468/6 . Great toublehooting on your part for confirming the thermals ^,^!

Maybe its time Linus did a video aha, maybe its a tech urban myth now as CPU tech has changed so much

The CPU temps are around 50 degrees in idle

Performance is doing well now.

I remember that when I used the laptop for the first 2-3 weeks the temps were between 88 - 93 degrees , I send it to warranty services and they said it's normal that temps

Anything over 94*C is abnormal. 92-93*C is a bit too close for comfort. Wouldn't take much to go over 94*C. As mentioned earlier, did you try to raise the laptop about an inch above a hard surface to promote better airflow? Temps might be reduced as much as 5*C by this simple passive cooling method. Often better than a laptop cooler because coolers can actually impede airflow from the laptop exhaust vents.
