Bios Problems- I didn't know what fixed the problem

Hello where can I report a bug?

I have a conceptd 7 ezel and just found an issue I've encountered before related to bluetooth...

Intel driver manager was flagging me to install the latest bluetooth and wifi drivers today and I did. Installing them broke bluetooth. This has happened in the past and although it sounds like an intel problem I think I've tracked it down to be a hardware/bios problem on this model laptop.

Bluetooth goes missing - to the degree that it no longer shows up in the windows device manager. Also the system says it dosent have bluetooth hardware and you get a mystery device un the usb section (of device manager) that has an error. No level of deleting the USB device or bluetooth devices, rolling back drivers or forcing updates will bring bluetooth back... system restores prior to the intell driver wont bring bluetooth back.... nothing.

I spent the last 5 hours banging my head against a wall trying to get my bluetooth back. I performed 4 sucessive system restores going further and further back in time with no luck at all. It just didnt make any sense. Finally I decided to take a look in the BIOS.... so I booted up hit F2, entered the bios and had a look around. I didnt see anything very interesting in there WIFI and bluetooth were tied together and were on. BUT I did decide to "save and exit" wich forced the bios to write settings. I didnt change anything, just did a SAVE and exit.

Then I booted up my computer and like magic bluetooth was working again.

After many hours of pulling my hair out - the simple act of forcing the BIOS to refresh looks like the real answer. So it makes me wonder why?

I know I was doing a driver update on bluetooth, but how/why would that have any effect at the BIOS level?

Its probably beyond what I know about computers, but to me it makes me think theres a BUG and this device is due for a BIOS update to adress it.

I mentioned this has happened before- and it has - but I never had it isolated like this. I had gone down the same path and somewhere in changing accounts (so I had administrator access to do the restore) the ACER update utility told me there was a BIOS update that I didnt have - so I applied it and bluetooth came back. (but I also did a system restore right after, I broke the rules and changed too many things at once so I didnt now what fixed the problem).

My lptop is on the latest BIOS update - this was the latest bluetooth driver from intel (Version: 22.190.0.2)

I've experienced the same problems with my Nitro 5 AN515-56 Win-11 and the new 20H2 version too, with the Killer 1AX650i Wi-Fi and the Intel BT drivers, as no Intel BT drivers (which there have been 5=6 new updates) work for this card, but this is only with the BT drivers as the Wi-Fi new drivers work. I've got the latest bios and all the windows updates done and whenever windows update updates the BT dirver I lose my BT and also with the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant.

But the BT works perfectly with the Acer listed oem driver and with the Wi-Fi with the latest driver, so its not a problem for me. I've contacted Intel and they got back to me and said that these cards are Acer proprietary cards and that is why the new drivers from Intel don't work, but any solutions will be gladly taken onboard.

BT Acer oem driver running on my laptop as no other BT driver will work, the latest BT driver is Version: version: 22.190.0.2

Wi-Fi updated newest driver; the Acer oem Wi-Fi driver is Version:22.40.0.7

Thanks for taking the time to reply. The bluetooth in my laptop is specifically Intel (or so info on the acer downloads page for my system suggests). Since thats the case I'd assume that intel updates are/should be safe.

I certainly dont think they should be able to affect low-level things that basically are turning off bluetooth at the "bios" level (Havent had a new computer in a while I understand that now its really a UEFI).

At least I know where I should look now when/if this happens - but I'd still like to know how to how its possible.

I've always used Qualcomm Atheros Wi-Fi/BT cards and every time I've used intel, they have been problematic, and this latest Intel card BT in my AN515-56 the Killer AX1650i (which is an Intel 6 Wi-Fi 6 160MHz/BT v5.2 card) is no different, don't get me wrong as this card works 100% and perfectly on the Intel 22.40.0.2 driver which is the Acer oem provided BT driver and has great reception even through concrete and brick walls at about 20 yards, so I'm not complaining, as that is about as mobile a range that I need the BT to be as its range 😁
