Don't install Win-10 on this laptop as your Intel 11th Gen laptop is designed for Win-11 and works perfectly, I've got an 11th Gen I7-11800H RTX-3050 NVidia graphics Nitro 5 laptop and it works 100% and perfectly with Win-11 22H2 OS 22621.963 in gaming and editing and all aspects that a laptop of this high specs should work for.

Download the Win-11 22H2 version installation file onto a USB and do a "Clean Install" of Win-11 22H2. Before you start the installation make sure that you have the IRST (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology) Driver Version:19.1.0.1001 installed onto another and separate USB as you will need this driver when you completely Delete and Format the boot drive for the clean install, you will need to install this driver to be able to proceed with the Win-11 22H2 installation process.

Then and after the installation is complete and Win-11 is digitally registered, make sure that all the Windows Updates are up to date and install the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant and make sure that all Win-11 Intel drivers are up to date and also do the same for your NVidia latest graphics driver, as all this will make your Predator Helios 300 PH315-55 work 100% and perfectly and like it should with Win-11 22H2. As all you basic problems (that should be working 100%) like the touchpad my sound and microphone will work and you won't have any problems.

You actually don't. Acer in their infinite wisdom decided to require a third party bios driver. There's a simple toggle in bios that allows you to install with the normal AHCI driver. I don't remember the option, might have to hit Ctrl + S in the bios screens to show it. Among other nonsense design decisions like the lights flashing by default and requiring you to have the (what I consider garbage) Predator software to change it. Why no hardware bios control of the lights is beyond me. This is a clean looking laptop, do they think everyone who owns it wants flashing RGB everywhere? Because that was the default. I mean, hey, it's not like there are professionals who need a graphics card and happened to get a good deal on this one, and just want normal looking lights, right? Obviously the only people who will ever buy this laptop are gamers who like flashing lights, that's the only possibility in the world and so that's why Acer designed the laptop the way they did.

Anyway, just to make sure it's clear, I'm being completely sarcastic. This quote illustrates my point perfectly. You can't clean install windows without a third party driver or without changing drive options in bios and the only time I've seen default options like this is about 20 years ago with XP. You had to have a separate driver for some hard drives back in the day. That's simply because they weren't included in the Windows install. So thanks, Acer, for bringing us 20 years into the past. 😑

Point illustrated- Stephen, you have 6k posts on this forum and you didn't even know it was possible to use the AHCI driver. Now if someone would enlighten me on whether RST actually gives a benefit, I'd appreciate that. I'm using a single drive and I don't care about 3rd party Intel bios drivers. That's something I don't know since I've never used RST.

@imverystupidanddumb I just checked. This is exactly how to do it on a PH315-55. Reboot, go into bios. Go to the Main tab, the name is literally Main. Press Ctrl + S, it will show options. Fun fact: you can do this on other screens and show the options that Acer hid. Go to the option that says VMD driver and turn it off. That's Intel RST listed as VMD in bios. Congrats, now you can install Windows without RST/linux if you want. You know, because it's YOUR device and you should be able to do whatever you want with it.

For the record, I'm running Windows 10. 🤷‍♂️

Only issue I currently have is audio, the Realtek driver won't extract due to a file path error from the win11 setup file. Other than that, everything is working. I don't recommend it actually but I got tired of 11 thinking it knows better than me. Only thing that I absolutely cannot get to work is the orange/white mux switch light for the graphics but I really don't care since I manually pick my mode and it actually works very well considering some of the horror stories I've read regarding advanced Optimus.

For the record, I love the hardware. I bought it because it was the heaviest, not the lightest. I wanted to make sure the cooling was adequate and I'm very happy I did. Outstanding job. I wish I could turn the Predator settings to quiet by default in order to keep noise down. I'm forced to open the software every time I boot up and I don't like extra stuff running on my machine but that's a minor gripe.

You're not dumb, it's the companies that make dumb software decisions and complicate it for the rest of us. I posted all this because there's a serious lack of accurate info as I've found out. This is the newest laptop I've ever bought so it's been an experience for me. Hope that helps.

Wow. I just typed out how to install Windows 10. All my drivers are working. This forum deleted it as I was editing the message. I now have a way that is a cleaner, faster way of installing drivers, ensures Windows Update doesn't get involved and install things like Logitech software that I didn't ask for, makes sure the driver version from Acer is the one installed, and has the only issue of the mux light not working. Everything else works. Including that Realtek driver that won't extract in Windows 10.

This forum, whether it was a bug or an admin, just proved my point. Hardware is solid. The software is garbage. I just spent the last 30 minutes doing this and making sure it works and it's much better, allows you to control driver versions, keeps Windows update enabled, and allows people to install Windows 10 or even Linux if they want.

I'll not be sharing. This might be my last Acer product. I love the hardware but this just showed me the entire point I was making, that we're not allowed to do with our devices what we want, EVEN THOUGH WE ARE THE ONES WHO OWN IT. LET ME MAKE THAT CLEAR, ACER, IF I WANT TO INSTALL WINDOWS 10 OR LINUX, I SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT AND THE RISK THAT GOES WITH IT.

Oh wait, Linux is more secure. Good job. Slow clap

If the forum software deleted my comment in the middle of editing, you literally just made my point for me while I was typing it. If it was an admin, you're saying I shouldn't have control over my own device.

    slow clap

Just summing up years of experience and why I love hardware but hate software. Wow, y'all might have just lost a future customer with this one. Because if I can't change a simple fan profile without using bloated software that runs in the background, there's no way I'm trusting any of Acer's other software. This is beyond ridiculous.

So no, even though I have seen plenty of posts asking about Windows 10 and Linux, I'm not rewriting what I just wrote. It's gone. Sorry. I won't be helping anyone. I also likely will never buy another Acer product in the future. Not because they're bad, I really like this laptop. Just because other companies get the software right. It's simply because there are better options.

It really sucks to see great hardware taken down a notch due to stupid design decisions. Acer needs to take notes. @imverystupidanddumb Sorry, I'm not writing all that out again. Too much work. I'm done. Acer just killed it. Hint though: it has to do with manually extracting and installing drivers. And my Windows 10 install is clean and everything works.

Best of luck. I'm done here.

PS - lol, this is funny. I used nvcleanstall from TechPowerUp to clean install the newest video drivers. Nvidia platform controller wasn't installed. So I used 7zip to extract the full Nvidia installer. I put that extracted folder into my drivers folder. Then I manually updated. It installed the final missing driver and now when I switch from integrated to discrete graphics, Optimus switches faster than it ever has lol. Maybe one day companies will learn that people are getting tired of getting a bunch of ***** they didn't ask for.

Or maybe it's just me that's getting tired of it, who knows. I learned what I needed to know and now I'm moving on. No further help will be given. Thank Acer.
