Hi All

Wondering if anyone can help

Using optimus at 165hz I get this annoying screen tearing whilst on desktop or gaming

When setting to discrete graphics its fine, it only does it Using optimus

Lowering the hz to 60 fixes it but defeats the purpose of having a good screen

Anyone know what's causing it please?

I uploaded a video of the issue on YouTube =

Thanks

Dan

How does using the discrete GPU instead of the integrated GPU defeat the purpose of having a good screen? Having a discrete GPU is often the main reason for having a good screen.

Perhaps you should reveal your full helios 300 model number to better understand what the problem is? For example PH315-52?

Apologies for reviving this thread, but not utilizing the integrated GPU in a laptop is wasteful if you have features like Freesync Premium, etc. Why bother buying a laptop with integrated graphics and then not using it makes it not worth it.

Because all modern CPUs from Intel & AMD have an integrated built-in GPUs whether or not the PC has a separate discreet GPU. The BIOS firmware most often relies on loading the integrated GPU to pass on basic input/output hardware to the operating system which then loads the discrete GPU drivers.

In many laptops, the operating system software, app, game or youtube videos often automatically controls which GPU is used, not the user. While in others, the user can control which GPU is used.
