A515-45 - Docking station reboot I have updated all the drivers and the problem persists.
Hello,
Quite often when i plug in my targus display-link docking station into my acer computer, the entire thing will reboot. This will also happen randomly happen if the computer is on sleep and was just reawoken.
I have updated all the drivers and the problem persists. Any advice on what I could attempt to prevent this? Is the machine broken?

Not a good idea to hot plug or hot unplug a dock with the laptop turned on. The laptop should be turned off when you want to plug in or unplug dock.

OK, I will do this in the future.
That being said, the issue also happens occasionally when the laptop is reawoken from sleep with the docking station already connected and functioning prior to sleep.

Was it plugged in before the laptop was first turned on for the day? Or hotplugged after the laptop was first turned on for the day?

I followed all the advice and just got the problem again upon opening a random software on my computer. It is never the same software or the same thing that makes it crash. The computer just completely reboots with no error messages.

My acer-aspire-5-a515-45-r4p7 laptop has exactly the same problem.
For a long time I could not understand the reason for spontaneous reboots, but I noticed that the laptop often reboots when the notification sound from the messenger plays, then I realized that the problem was in the sound card. To check, I disabled the sound card in the device manager and the reboot stopped.
I tried many versions of Realtek drivers, none of the drivers solved the problem.

Experiencing a reboot when connecting a Targus DisplayLink docking station to your Acer computer can indeed be frustrating. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
- Power and Connection Check:
- Ensure that both the docking station and the computer are powered off before connecting them.
- Verify that the connections between the docking station and the computer are secure. Try unplugging and re-plugging them to ensure a proper connection.
- Driver Update:
- Even though you mentioned updating the drivers, it's worth double-checking that you have the latest DisplayLink drivers installed on your computer. Visit the Targus or DisplayLink website and download the most recent drivers specific to your docking station model and operating system.
- Compatibility:
- Confirm that your docking station model is compatible with your Acer computer and the operating system you're using. Check the manufacturer's documentation or support website for any compatibility issues or specific requirements.
- Power Settings:
- Adjust the power settings on your computer to prevent unexpected behavior when waking from sleep mode. Go to the power management settings in your operating system and make sure that USB ports or power-saving features are not causing conflicts.
- USB Hub Power:
- If your docking station has its own power supply, ensure that it is properly connected and functioning. Some USB devices draw substantial power, so a powered USB hub can alleviate any strain on your computer's USB ports.
