Hello,

I wanted to ask for some support in regard to any validating information for my older laptop that currently holds an on-board 4gb ram and a 128gb NVMe SSD that I wish to upgrade. Firstly, I have read from the specs that this laptop has an extra slot for a ram upgrade that can be up to 8gb alone, maximum of 12 gb ram total while the community mentioned even exceeding the ram spec maximum in their own products. I also have read from the community that while one user mentioned that a 1tb m.2 NVMe SSD would work for this laptop , another expressly wrote that this laptop slot does not support the m.2 NVMe version of the ssd and that another type of ssd at a limit of 256 gb was the only compatible SSD to use? Please give me any valid information for this laptop as the service manual is not made available for end users so finding the right information can be bit difficult. I would hopefully just upgrade the ram with an extra stick of 8gb if that's an option, what compatible ram would work for this? If the SSD was able to be upgraded to 1tb then I would do so, otherwise please refer me to this couple of acer products I should search for as an upgrade, if you need any other information from me please tell thanks for the help, kindly.

Your laptops memory upgrade capabilities are up to 12GB total, as it has 4GB onboard memory and you can only add 1x 8GB DDR4-3200 • CL=22 • NON-ECC • SODIMM • 260-pin • 1.2V • 2Rx8/1Rx8/1Rx16 • PC4-25600 type ram module. Have a look here at Acer Aspire A315-23-A8GY RAM & SSD Upgrades as it will tell you all that your laptop can be upgraded with and to including the M.2 drive that Crucial says its a PCIe 4 x4 (which I don't think that it can) as imo its only up to an M.2 NVMe PCIe 3 x4, Check that out and do the Crucial System Scan for your laptop and find out.

Thanks for the very quick reply during the time, I have looked at the Crucial website before, and although I could not get the scan to work, I input the name of my laptop and found the right ram module from what you listed above, perfect. As for the M.2 drive, I did find a compatible P3 3x4 drive instead of the 4x4 drive that crucial had in the listed compatible SSD drives, would you recommend from the specs of this particular laptop I go with the 1tb NVMe PCIe 3x4? Crucial P3 1TB PCIe M.2 2280 SSD | CT1000P3SSD8 | Crucial.com If this is compatible then I'll take it too. 🙂

I prefer either the Samsung drives like the M.2 970 Pro or the WD NS750 PCIe 3 x4, the Crucial M.2 and 2.5" SSDs can be problematic with compatibility issues with Acer laptops.

    Hello there once more,

Based on the information you have for this laptop, I purchased the stated DDR4-3200 crucial RAM and I would ask, from the task manager it's stated as having a speed of 2400mhz but if the specs on the newly purchased RAM state that it is a 3200 spec as we know, and also that it can be spec'd at 2 other setting being 2933 and another, what is the compatible memory speed listed on this CPU spec list? I don't mind keeping the 2400mhz, but I could not find any information regarding that and wanted to find the right spot so to speak. Thank you.

Edit: I did not know how to delete this comment after finding the answer minutes after but on the AMD website it mentions 2400mhz system memory spec, one last comment you might find odd that left me puzzled was when I bought the RAM and placed it into the laptop, I noticed only one RAM slot. Initially I believed this laptop to be upgradeable with an extra 8gb of ram on top of the soldered 4gb RAM I had believed was read on my task manager, yet the 4gb was not soldered on at all but a SODIMM RAM like the one I bought! Could it have been that the old 4gb Soldered RAM had been removed and they only used a 4gb SODIMM RAM instead? I will need to unscrew everything and find out what's really going on but as of now it only shows my one 8gb of new ram which lead me to believe the 4gb on -board soldered-on ram had been removed by the last owners or retailer. Would it be at all possible to have this replaced with another soldered 4gb RAM and if so what type of RAM spec would that be?

i have the a315-23-a8gy in charcole black here in front of me and it has no 4gb on board ram! you point it out for me on the board and ill piss myself sir! there isnt one burnt in. however. it does have a stock 4gb ddR4 ram stick in there and THAT can be takken out and thrown across the room as you can buy a 16gb ddR4 ram for it as i have and it is running that now perfectly! however i have had issued upgrading the m.2 128gb ssd that this unit comes with, i have tried a 1tb m.2 ssd and it was not compatable with this system and it was rejected, could have been fixed sure. id rather just send it back and get the 2.5" ssd and ssd bracket to upgrade this system because there is a bay in there for it. i have been using the a8gy for a very long time now and i love this laptop i wouldnt reccomend anything other than this product! very easy to upgrade and what not however just do your research and get the right ADVISE on things. reviews is where its at with stuff like this. you could just get your advise from someone who has actually been thru what your trying to do rather than someone doing the same exact thing you are by researching it on the internet for answers to your problems.

all in all THERE IS NO 4GB RAM BURNT IN THAT INFO IS INCORRECT
