trying to help out a friend. out of nowhere the sound on their laptop stopped working and said the audio device was disabled. they've uninstalled the audio disk and reinstalled realtek audio from the acer site as suggested by the support chat but it doesn't install and still wont work. the laptop is fully updated to windows 11 v252, the jack doesn't work neither does connecting headphones via bluetooth. any suggestions?

It might help if you could reveal the model number. For example, SF314-54?

    >>>the laptop is fully updated to windows 11>>>>>>SF314-42-R265>>>>

Did the audio work nomrally before this Win11 update?

I ask because --- despite Microsoft hype and its flashing Win11 update billboard that says this model will run Win11 --- which it does --- this particular model is still not yet fully-certified or guaranteed to run Win11 without adverse or annoying side effects.

Acer hasn't released drivers for Windows 11 on the SF314-42 models yet. Try reinstalling the Windows 10 audio drivers in compatibility mode...
