Laptop not turning on SF314-54 because of new charger cable, the laptop or do I just need to wait?

Hello all,

Firstly, the computer model in question is the below:

Acer

SWIFT SF314-54

Model no. N17W7

Now onto the problem. Two weeks ago I was using my laptop and I saw the battery was low so I went to charge it. My charger cable has been finicky over the last couple of months, sometimes working and sometimes not. Usually I would find a way to get it working. Well no matter what I did this latest time, I couldn't get it to function. Thus, my laptop lost battery and turned off.

I ordered a replacement charger cable and when I plugged it in there was no indication of life, no side lights turned on. However, while plugged in, if the power button is pressed I see 5 orange blinks on the side of the laptop where the charge Indicator light is.

So my question is this, why will the laptop not turn on? Is it because;

A) Somethunh is wrong with the charger?

B) Something is wrong with the laptop itself?

C) Is nothing wrong and I merely have to leave the laptop alone with the new charger plugged in so the battery can get more juice?

And lastly, what do the 5 orange blinking lights when the power button is pressed indicate?

If anyone could assist with this I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

  • Before answering your questions, test it with a multimeter, on the direct current scale. The video is in Portuguese:

    The output must give 19v.

Thank you so much for your response! Sadly, I do not own a multimeter so if we proceed on the assumption that output is 19V (which is what the sale description for the charger stated it was) what would this mean?

  • means the power adapter is working. can you also test the dcin jack connector?

What sort of test need to be done to see if the DCIN jack connector is working correctly?

    SOLVED!

To anyone that is reading this thread, the problem is solved and the laptop is working. The problem turned out to be the laptop itself. The jack in the laptop for the charger plug is faulty and only picks up the charge when the charging plug is maneuvered around enough to catch it a charge, otherwise it stops working.

Still unclear what the 5 orange blinking lights signified but once the charger was put in and moved around to connect to the faulty jack the laptop did turn on.

Thus the charger cable works and the laptop is at fault.

Thank you egydiocoelho for a your help!

You are in luck, that jack is replaceable without needing to solder to the motherboard. Here's the info from Acer:

I believe the first two are the 65W versions for the SF314-54G models and the latter two are for yours. You should be able to use either, they are just sourced from different vendors by Acer and are otherwise identical.
