Hello, the common advice is to get a Crucial Memory Scan when upgrading RAM but I believe it can be incorrect at times. I have an Acer Aspire 5 A515-44. It came with 8 GB memory and I assumed it was 4GB in two banks, as I never opened the back, figuring that was the setup. I now wanted to increase my memory as the Laptop was prone to freezing when too many tabs opened. I did a Crucial Memory Scan and was advised Laptop would support up to 32GB in 2 memory banks, using 16 GB each. Their simulation even showed it when I ran the scan. I purchased the 2 X 16 GB memory waited and now finally after receiving them opened the back and voila only one memory bank with replaceable RAM. So now I have a few situations as I in hindsight finally decided to do research. Advice previously was to get a Crucial Scan they are always correct/right. Well, new advice says my motherboard has one soldiered non-removable 4GB RAM and one slot for replaceable RAM to give a 20 GB Max upgrade. I figured what the heck since I have the 16GB RAM put it in and run a new Crucial Scan. New Crucial Scan still advises me I can run 32 GB, shows the 16 GB in the slot, and advises me I can replace the 4 GB in the other slot (which is not there)for 32 GB. In both situations part #s and prices are given.

So any helpful advice, please. Should I forget the 32 GB upgrade as advised by Crucial? Fight it out with Crucial and return the two 16GB RAM for 32 GB RAM or fight it out with Crucial for a refund of one of the 16 GB RAMs based on the wrong advice and stay with the 20 GB I now have? Has anyone ever ran into a situation where a Crucial Scan is wrong?
