I have recently bought an ACER Nitro 5 AN515-57 and am experiencing an issue where both the integrated and dedicated graphics cards are performing together instead of just the dedicated one. This has caused performances losses in all of my video games. I have already tried going to NVIDIA GeForce Experience & Control Panel as well as Windows 11 Graphics settings to manually set the main GPU to run on my dedicated GPU. However, when looking at the performance tab of the task manager, it can be seen that both the integrated and dedicated GPU are running my videos games which has lead to said performance loss.

Is there anyway to make the system favor the dedicated graphics more than the integrated one?

Hi,

Have you tried changing PhysX GPU acceleration as well? If not, give it a try, follow the instructions in this link:

Yes, I have already tried this but unfortunately, the problem still has not been resolved.

OK, you could try a battery reset, turn off the laptop, disconnect from mains, press power button for 9 seconds, leave the laptop to rest for 15 Mins, reconnect AC adapter and charge the battery and see whether it resolves the issue.

If that doesn't help, open CMD and run as Administrator, type sfc /scannow and press enter, run this command at least 3 times.

But I think my issue just happens to be affecting the GPUs.

I have already tried all possible "google-able" method of enforcing my RTX 3060 to play a bigger role in running my games, but none of them helped.

Is there maybe a special software for managing(disabling or restricting) my integrated Intel(R) UHD Graphics? Or perhaps this is a hardware flaw?

Yes, I have set every game to run on high performance (using Windows 11 Graphics Settings) as well as setting high performance on AC power (using Nitro Sense). Settings on NVIDIA Control Panel have also been set to run on my RTX 3060 Laptop GPU. However, for some reason, when observing the performance tab of the task manager, both the Intel(R) UHD Graphics and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 are running my video games. It may not be visible in this screenshot, but their graphs (on the left-hand side) would often experience the same spikes as well as some highs and lows.

This concluded the fact that they both work at the same time to run my video games, meaning the Intel(R) UHD Graphics is acting as a bottleneck and possibly "ruining" the performance of the RTX 3060 GPU.

It seems that this may be a rare case of factory/production/hardware error because solving this issue through "software" and "settings" methods did not help so far. However, since I have recently bought this laptop, would it be better if I exchanged it?

@fibbles . Your laptop doesn't have a mux switch (used to shift between dedicated gpu and igpu) or nvidia advanced optimus which is the main reason that your laptop is incapable of getting those max frames in games and also the reason your igpu is also being used simultaneously while discrete gpu is rendering. The mux switch is only available in higher models of nitro and the predator like the latest ones. the only way to bypass this is to use an external monitor which will bypass your igpu and only use dedicated gpu using hdmi or thunderbolt type c port. hope it helps, if i was helpful please give me a thumbs up

This seems like very logical conclusion. I would find it very inconvenient if I have to use an external monitor to run my games.

What I find strange is that I know of a colleague who does not have the same issue as me when it comes to running their videos games. They have slightly older model of this laptop with the same specs except for the processor (AMD Ryzen 7 5000 Series). If there is no way to solve this issue through "setting" or "software" means, then it must be a hardware issue that I can't fix without professional assistance.

If that were the case, then it would be better if I could instead exchange or upgrade the laptop to a better model.

I think it's normal for the system to use Intel graphics when you switch to NVIDIA graphics because I had AN517-51 and remember seeing the Task Manager like yours but unfortunately my Nitro is broken now, so I am unable to check, give me a day or two to find out more about this issue.

But still the fact remains that the "Mux Switch" used to shift between igpu and dgpu is missing from your laptop same as mine. i have an rtx 3050 and it has the same thing, igpu is used simultaneously as dgpu is rendering. and also i don't think this is a hardware 'issue'. cuz the hardware that is required for this is already missing from your model. so i don't think there is a need for professional assistance. if you really wanna know more about this, hit it up on google (mux switch) or fire up a video of Jarrod's Tech on youtube. it'll help you a lot in understanding this area. give a thumbs up if i helped :)

I had the same problem with my Acer Nitro 5 AN517-41-R5UG which I bought 3 days ago. And its problem with drivers for integrated graphics processor. So this is what you have to do:

1) Go to Device Manager and find Display Adapters. There are will be two positions, first for integrated graphics and second for discrete card. Choose Uninstall device in context menu for integrated graphics and restart your PC.

2) After restarting this device will be at same place, but with old drivers. Then you need download drivers for your processor. I have AMD version of my laptop, so you need search at Intel website.

Thank you for your time and response regarding this issue.

Unfortunately, when I uninstalled my integrated graphics and restarted the laptop, it was automatically reinstalled with the same new version (I still tried reinstalling the driver anyway). Did I perhaps miss an important step or does it just work this way for Intel?

Also, just a small update. It seems that the laptop also automatically determines how much of the GPU it should use depending on how heavy/light a video game is. I tried playing Resident Evil 2 (Remake) on Ray Tracing, and it was able to use at least 95% of the GPU when I looked at the NVIDIA overlay. Playing Subnautica also used a higher percentage (at least 80%). But for lighter games like Valorant and Team Fortress 2, the usage is much less, averaging around 30% to 60% for both games.

Is the laptop supposed to work this way?

i have the same issue since i buy the laptop please if you find a soultion tell us howbwe can fix it because acer support doesnt know how to fix it and they just ignore there buyers
