The keyboard connector to the mainboard or power board probably needs to be reseated a few times to help clean the contacts. Sometimes happens when the machine is exposed to warm & humid conditions for extended periods..

I seem to be suffering from exact the same issue (Acer aspire 5 A517). Putting a magnet on the Hal lid sensor (bottom left of the base, next to the touch pad), allows me to boot into my laptop using an external monitor over HDMI & external keyboard & mouse (built-in keyboard & touch pad don't work because of the Hal sensor trick?). Removing or shifting the magnet will immediately shut down the laptop, as if the power is immediately cut.

One other strange thing is that the power button doesn't power on the laptop anymore, only the numpad '0', '.' or Enter key will power on the laptop.

Indeed keyboard issue, thanks JackE for the tip. I'm able to get the screen working as well as the touchpad, if I disconnect the keyboard connector right after laptop powers on.
