Can't get fingerprint reader to work with Windows Hello Fingerprint on TravelMate on Windows 10 N16P

Hello,

I have a work Acer TravelMate | P laptop Model No: N16P7

When I try to use Windows Hello Fingerprint, I get the following error: "Something went wrong. Try again later.", see attached screenshot.

On Windows 10.

I did manage to configure Windows Hello PIN.

In device manager, EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor driver seems to be installed with no issues. I downloaded it from https://www.acer.com/us-en/support?search=NXVDKAA00982202F197200;NX.VDKAA.009;TMP449-M&filter=global_download

I tried deleting the EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor driver, rebotting, then reinstalling it, rebotting, but this doesn't help.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

In my case, it was simply a misconfigured Group policy setting.

If no Device Manager red or yellow warnings, gently wipe the sensor surface with a soft cloth slightly dampened with rubbing alcohol. Pat dry with another cloth. Try it again.

I couldn’t set it up so didn’t even get to a point of using it. Windows doesn’t manage to configure it.

The "Some of these settings are hidden" message looks like you are connected to a domain. If the domain settings don't allow Windows Hello you will see those symptoms. Contact your IT people and have them allow Windows Hello for PINs and Fingerprints.
