Acer Predator Orion 7000 PO7-640 Question as to what is the small pop out device for ???

I live presently in Spain, just bought this system: Acer Predator Orion 7000 PO7-640 Intel Core i7-12700K/32GB/1TB SSD/RTX 3080

I feel nearly ashamed to ask this question but I cannot figure out what on earth is the small black box which pops out on top of the system. (See pic). It seems to be a sort of storage device but does not show as one on the PC. Also when I bought the system the only thing it mentions as storage is the 1 TB SSD, nothing else. I downloaded the manual from the internet studied it from beginning to end, but nowhere is it mentioned nor is there a picture of it in the manual.

Please does anybody know what this thing represents and what it is good for ?? Thanks in advance

    It's a 2.5-inch USB3.2 Gen2 Type-C Hotswap drive bay. See here.

I have almost the same question but need a bit of help. When I remove the dummy 'cartridge' popped out from the top, its clear that there is a USB connection in the middle of the box and of course its a specific size (The dummy box), I dont want to buy the wrtonfg pop out 2TB SSD

I dont want to buy the wrong sise or connection-could someone who knows exactly what i need to buy add a link here ? thanks so much !

That is right, the inside of the hot swap drive module has a SATA to USB adapter:

So the actual connection to the system is via that USB. Here's the pinout of the motherboard connector for it:

It's a USB 3.2 gen 2, so plenty fast for a SATA drive. I'd stick with a SSD in that slot if you want to use it.
