My son's Acer Swift One laptop screen has been playing up recently, but now is black.

The laptop works on an external monitor so not a processor/battery issue, and the screen backlight can be faintly seen and does flicker when Windows-Ctrl-Shift-B is pressed, so power to laptop screen is OK. No changes to config since it worked yesterday. Pin reset makes no difference.

Is this screen fixable?

Thanks

    For those that follow.....

It was a loose connection to the screen. This is what I did but you might be able to reseat it and tape it in better without removing the screen.

    1. Remove the screen bezel starting at top middle and working down.
    2. Release the screen by pulling out the two black rubber double-sided tapes. They're located at bottom of screen on far right and left. The right one is easier to see so do that one first. Lift the rubber tab and pull down.
    3. Ensure that the 30 pin connector is seated properly. My screen immediately came back to life.
    4. Use 3" of duct tape wrapped from back to front to ensure that the connector doesn't fall out again.
    5. Use double-sided tape along the back of the screen to secure the now working screen.
    6. Replace the bezel.

Glad to avoid wasting my money on a replacement screen (£40) or replacing the whole laptop (£300) but couldn't Acer design it better? One might think that their £50 diagnostic fee and £126 screen replacement fee might have influenced their decision not to add an extra 3" of tape to hold the connector in place.

Hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

    Good luck

  • What is the exact model? Example AN515-55-58VH. Did you use a heat gun to help remove the double-sided tape?

    Model is SF114-32 N17W6. Acer Swift 1 from 2019

No tools needed for this model. The rubber double-side tape is brilliant. You just pull the visible end down and it slowly peels away underneath the screen. You think the rubber will snap but it doesn't! Only downside is that it can't be re-used, so you have to use new tape to re-secure the screen again.
